Snoop Dogg Talks Wiz Khalifa Collabo Movie ‘High School’
Cali veteran says straight-to-DVD project will hit shelves April 20.

Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa are taking their pot-powered friendship to the big screen. The Cali spitter recently revealed details of the upcoming movie, which drops in April on a very appropriate date for two herbal enthusiasts.
“[I'm] working on something with my nephew, Wiz Khalifa. We working on a movie called ‘High School,’ which will be out 4/20/2011, straight to DVD, ya dig?” Snoop told Hip Hop Nation’s DJ Skee.
A movie following the adventures of Wiz and Snoop nearly ensures a dope soundtrack will accompany the flick, and the duo dropped the project’s first offering, “That Good,” on Tuesday. “[I'm] just trying to spread my wings and fly a little bit,” Snoop explained of teaming up with Wiz for the cinematic venture. “Do a little something for the old school, the new school, the true school. You know, just try to stay true to who I am and just make that good sh–. You know what I’m good for.”
Snoop, who has been on Team Taylor for a while, also added that he was proud to see the Pittsburgh MC break out as a rising rap force to be reckoned with. “It’s beautiful to see him gradually grow from somebody that’s hustling to the whole world starting to pay attention and respect him for who he is. To see him get that attention and that respect and that world renown that he deserves is a beautiful thing,” he beamed. “Now he just gotta stick to the script and keep making hot sh– and, you know, stay on course.”
Snoop also commented on the laid-back lyricists’ many similarities — from their beanpole frames to their botanical extracurricular activities — and explained that the movie idea sprung from teaming up on projects like Wiz’s “Black and Yellow” remix. He added that joining forces was not just good for the MCs, but a good look for the rap game in general.
“We decided to go ahead and say, ‘You know what? Let’s do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do ’cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time we know what the people want,’ ” he said. “The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain’t about old school and new school. It’s just about good music and making good moves and putting something out there that’s classic where people can respect it and say, ‘Yeah, so now, this was some gangsta sh– that really made hip-hop gradually grow to another level.’ ”
Are you looking forward to checking out the duo’s new movie? Let us know in the comments!

Paramore’s ‘Last Word’: Watch The Entire Interview Now!
In an exclusive interview with MTV News, Paramore discuss their future after the departure of two members.
By James Montgomery

FRANKLIN, Tennessee — On December 30, MTV News traveled to Paramore’s hometown of Franklin, Tennessee, to conduct the band’s first — and only — interview about the departure of founding members Josh and Zac Farro.
It was a far-reaching, in-depth chat, covering topics like faith, friendship and the very future of the band itself. The discussion was frank, open and even a little eye opening, and no topic — including frontwoman Hayley Williams’ relationship with Josh Farro and the status of Paramore’s deal with Atlantic Records — was off limits. And as proof of that, we’re presenting the entire interview to you now, complete with a full transcript. Take a seat, because it’s a doozy.
MTV: Well guys, thank you, obviously, for inviting us in today. This is a tremendous opportunity I think and a really cool thing to do, so I wanted to talk first of all … I found out about this on Tuesday, and the message I got from the label, from the management was: “We want to do this before the end of the year.” I think I can assume why, but I’d like to hear you guys sort of articulate: Why was it important for you to address this issue before the end of 2010?
Hayley Williams: There’s been a lot of things said online, especially in the past week, and it sucks … it sucks to read it, and it also sucks to know that responding isn’t really going to help, online, because things travel so terribly on the Internet. So we really wanted the opportunity to show our fans that we’re OK, you know? The three of us are still here, we’re not going anywhere. A lot of kids are still asking if the band is breaking up, and that just goes to show how broken the communication online can be when rumors start traveling. So this is our way of showing that there’s a future and we’re stoked for it.
MTV: Have you ever tried to be sarcastic in an e-mail and they’re like, “Why are you yelling at me?”
Williams: Yeah! It never works!
MTV: I guess before we talk about the respective statements I wanted to [address] the timeline. … The timeline of this is a little odd. I completely missed this first fake blog post thing. From what I understand, you guys had nothing to do with this fake blog post. This took you completely by surprise.
Williams: We, I mean, I haven’t even read the whole fake blog post. I saw bits of it.
Jeremy Davis: Me neither. I looked for it too. People were like, “What are you talking about?” I didn’t even get to read the whole thing. I never could find the rest of it.
Williams: It was really weird timing though. When I got an e-mail about it, I was like, “What is happening?” You know? … The fans that are really close to us thought, at least, thought they noticed things for a while now, and so with all the speculation, I guess we had to expect that someone would do something like that eventually, but the timing was weird, and that’s why we wanted to clear stuff up.
MTV: So the issue of the two respective statements: Yours was posted first, then Josh was sort of upset by that. So did [the Farros] come to you and say, “We’re going to announce this at so and so date?” How did you guys sort of go first?
Williams: With the statement?
MTV: Yeah. Because of the blog post, it sort of came out?
Davis: That was the problem, because then everyone online starts wanting to know immediately, and you know how fast things spread online. An hour online is like three days. And it flies all over the world. And it was important to us to clear things up with people … you can’t have a fake statement going around. I mean, obviously it does, and people are going to believe whatever they believe, but we wanted to post something that showed the fans “Hello” and clear it up and something before Christmastime, too. It’s all really strange timing.
Taylor York: And that was the thing … Josh and Zac told us a couple months ago, so we communicated that we really wanted them to write something to the fans themselves. And that’s the thing is the [fake] blog really threw things off, because people started talking, and so they totally had the chance, but we just needed to clear things up before things got out of hand. So that’s kind of how that whole mess started: It wasn’t anyone trying to beat anyone.
MTV: So you were sort of waiting for them?
Williams: Yes. Originally, we wanted them to make the statement, and we gave them a chance, and then everything happened online. It was terrible timing, especially being around Christmas. You don’t want to be like, “Merry Christmas, the band is over!” It sucked for us to watch out fans freak out online, especially the ones that are on our website, because those are the ones that are so … every single day posting stuff and contributing, and that’s not a way you want to pay back your fans, especially around Christmastime.
MTV: You guys said in your statement that their decision to leave didn’t really shock you. So I’m interested … when did you start having conversations with [the Farros] when they said they wanted to leave?
Williams: We didn’t really have any conversations about it before they told us, “We’ve decided this.” At least, I didn’t have that conversation with them. I was not shocked that they wanted to leave, but kind of was surprised at how they were telling us, more or less. The way it was so far in advance to when they would actually be done. We’ve noticed they weren’t happy, and that sucks. It sucks to be in a family or in a marriage where you see someone that’s either hurting or just not having fun … I don’t know, it sucked. I shouldn’t say we weren’t shocked, because it’s always going to be a shock, it’s always gonna suck, but I guess we felt it coming for a long time.
MTV: Having seen you guys for a couple of years and watching how you react, both on-camera and off, it’s very easy to look at every interview we’ve done with the five of you guys … the way they sort of were in interviews, Josh in particular. So, like you said before, I think people can sort of notice things that maybe weren’t there and was there … I’m just kind of curious, when you said this didn’t really surprise you, that you felt it coming, was there a moment where they said, “This is it?” … Was it when Brand New Eyes came out? One of the tours for it?
Davis: It wasn’t very long ago. It’s not like we’ve known forever. I mean, it was literally a couple of months before it all happened. It was all still new to us as well. But, we could tell. … The thing is, even in posts and stuff, kids talk about them not being happy, and it shows. … When you’re not happy, it shows. And it was just really good for us to finally, that’s why that blog post really hit us hard, because we were going through all this, and we wanted to get it out to our fans, and our fans had found all that, and everyone started freaking out about it. So we had known for a couple months, but just didn’t know when to post it, and then that blog ended up screwing it all up. So it makes everything really difficult.
MTV: I know the schematics are a pain to go through again, but you said [for] a couple of months, you knew they were going to leave. Was it difficult then to carry on and sort of pretend — red carpets — that everything was cool?
York: Absolutely. We always talk about how our band is like a marriage, and it’s really hard to move forward as a group when there are people that aren’t into it. They’re not excited, they don’t want to be there. So to know it to that level that they didn’t want to be there was really tough. And knowing what was happening, and even in interviews being positive when maybe we didn’t feel positive, it was really hard. I think, in a way, it was kind of special because we knew when our last show was, and we were able to prepare, and I think that was cool. It was cool for us to know, but it was very difficult.
MTV: Last night I watched a lot of that footage from the show in Orlando, my hometown, but it didn’t look like it was a dire thing. Everyone seemed, onstage at least, to be having a good time.
Davis: That was the goal, really. To make sure everyone had a blast, and remembered, even if they weren’t happy at the time, we all enjoy and love playing together and all that stuff, and we wanted to make a celebration out of our last performance.
Williams: And that’s another reason we didn’t announce it sooner: We didn’t want fans to feel like they were coming to a funeral. Like, “Well, this is their last show, so I’m gonna go and mourn for an hour and a half.” That wouldn’t be fun for anybody, and it wouldn’t be fun for us. I think the way we did it was the right way for us, with our fans and the relationship we have with them. We put a lot on the line, and we tell our fans pretty much everything, but this was something that, it was like, we wanted to wait until the end of the year and we’re done because we want to enjoy every second that we can.
MTV: What happened after the show?
Williams: It was really anti-climactic, honestly. I think I expected it to either end in tears or be a big celebration kind of party thing. And it was neither of those. It was just, you know, you walk offstage, I went and warmed down, the guys went and put their stuff away, and that was it. We went back to the hotel and got ready to come home.
MTV: And I know that in their statement, they sort of left it nebulous, [and now] Zac sort of has this new project. Did they say what they were going to do next? Did they want to keep doing music, just different music?
Williams: No.
Davis: They pretty much said their heart wasn’t in it anymore, and you know what? Good for them. I would rather them go and be where they’re supposed to be, where they can be happy all the time. I think that’s what I would want anyone to do. But as much time as we spent, how much good things we’ve had together and worked together and everything, it’s been good. I’d rather see them be happy somewhere, you know?
MTV: Taking all that and segueing into their statement, I’m assuming this caught you by surprise, and probably was sort of hurtful. Where did you first read about it, hear about it? What was your initial reaction?
Williams: I think I heard it from — I don’t know who I heard [from] … probably one of these guys. I don’t know if I got a phone call or an e-mail, but I woke up to it, basically, and that sucked, and I was not happy. I mean, yeah, it hurts, because what we were told was that they weren’t happy, they didn’t want to do this, and you can’t be mad at someone for not feeling something. And if they don’t want to be in the band, then that’s a simple answer. But then when it really became about all these other things that I was very surprised and kind of felt led on almost. We’ve been doing this for six, seven years now. I don’t think any of this has been in vain, for any of us. We’ve loved every second that we’ve spent onstage, all the meet and greets, the things we’ve gotten to do with our fans; that’s the stuff we’ve built, we’ve worked really hard for, and I don’t think anyone should discredit it.
MTV: Taylor, how did you take it because you’ve known [the Farros] for a long time. Just judging on dynamics, you were sort of the link between you two and them. So how did you take it?
York: It was a drag. I mean, like I said earlier, we were expecting a statement from them, so once we released our statement, we all knew they would probably release something. So I think we were all kind of bracing ourselves. Breakups are hard, and there’s a lot of feelings, so we kind of, I think in a way we expected there to be something weird, and, yeah, it was really hard to read, just because it seemed like a lot of the stuff was pretty irrelevant to what happened. I think that was the weird thing, ’cause it just didn’t seem really necessary. But, we’re working through it, and it is what it is, and you can’t really let it get to you, because, I don’t know, it’s life.
Davis: It was pretty confusing because the way it was expressed to us from them was they weren’t happy and they wanted to move on and do something else. And there was this peace between us. And then reading [their statement] was totally something different. And, like Hayley said, … it was hard reading it, because the whole time, I was thinking about all our fans we worked so hard for, and all the confusion and that stuff. And it’s all a bunch of silliness. And, you know what? If they don’t want to be here and do the band stuff, then good luck with whatever they want to do, but they decided to leave and they weren’t happy so I can’t really say anything other than that.
MTV: Those are very diplomatic responses. I’m assuming, had we caught you on the day when this first happened, it might have been different.
Williams: Well yeah, I don’t really know what you’re talking about [laughing]. I don’t get angry. Yeah, of course you feel every single type of emotion possible when something like that happens with someone that either was or is very close to you, you just feel everything all at once. I’ve never felt so just. … I couldn’t even figure out how I felt. But after realizing, like Taylor said, that it just was kind of going to happen this way, you’ve just got to know that what’s important is the three of us are still here, and that we want to do this, and that’s the positive part about this.
MTV: Obviously, part of the reason we’re here is to talk about what’s next, but I would be remiss if we don’t go through this statement, and again, if there’s things you don’t want to talk about …
Williams: It’s fine.
MTV: We printed out copies and underlined several things. The strangest part of this thing is that they signed off by saying, “The intention of this statement is not to belittle or disgrace the band. We are still hoping to work out a friendly way to leave our part of Paramore and the band, including Hayley.” … All it does is belittle the band. Secondly, have they met up with you? Have you spoken to them since the statement?
Williams: No, we haven’t talked. I don’t even know what would be said, you know? I think I’m trying so hard to focus on the future, and they kind of opted out of that, so I’m happy here. I don’t know if there’s anything to be said.
MTV: Fair enough. So we’ll just go through these [points]. First and foremost is [to Hayley], you’re the one that sort of bears the brunt of it.
Williams: I know.
MTV: [But] there are parts where each of you [are mentioned]. First of all, can you talk about when this band first started, and just talk about your parents and managers, and [their claim] this was a solo band. How much of that [is true]? Because over the years people have said that Hayley is the only person in the band signed to Atlantic. Is that true?
Williams: Yeah, well, when I was 14, I was offered a contract, but my heart wasn’t to be a solo artist, my heart was to be in a band. Since I can remember, being a kid, I’ve always just wanted to be in a band. I didn’t even want to be the singer, I wanted to be the drummer so I could be behind everything, you know? And that’s what I fought for, and that’s what we’ve made it, and that’s why it seemed so irrelevant that everything was being pointed out and stated. We’ve always been honest about it. I’ve talked on LiveJournal to fans about the history of Paramore, the story of our band, tried to make it a more personal thing, where it’s not just hearsay and all this stuff that fans have to thumb through online. We’ve been honest about it, and we are a band, and, to me, it doesn’t matter if there’s a name on a contract. I hate business; it’s the last thing I ever want to talk about. So when that was brought up in the blog, I just felt like, man, fans shouldn’t care or need to hear about this stuff, because all that does is get in the way of music.
MTV: And it’s interesting to bring up the point, ’cause there’s obviously money, but when we were here a year ago, you [to Taylor] were talking about buying a house or something and you were 19 years old, so technically everyone is doing OK in this setup. But the question is: If we were to somehow to go to the Atlantic offices, pull out the contract, whose name is on the contract?
Williams: You would see my name. And the reason that it’s like that is because I was offered one. But it just sucks so bad that fans would have to focus on that, even for a second. Because this has never been about me. I’ve hated anybody or anything that has ever made this about me. That’s why I’ve worn shirts that say “Paramore is a band,” time and time again; that’s why we’ve written the songs we have; that’s why you see the name “Paramore” on our album covers.
York: That’s why the three of us are here talking to you.
Davis: And even if you go to the label, you’d technically have to pull out that [contract] to see [Hayley's name on it], because otherwise, it’s Paramore stuff all over the walls, with all of us on it. And that’s how it’s been this entire time: We’ve all been fighting for the same thing. And with the fans, all the same way, so it’s silly to think that.
MTV: There’s a paragraph here that talks about going to L.A. for a showcase and basically your manager was like, “Be in the lobby at this time!” and then you guys didn’t show up.
Williams: I didn’t hear this part. Huh? Wait. What would happen?
MTV: [Reading from the Farros' statement] “We traveled to L.A. a few weeks ago for a showcase and it was a nightmare. Hayley’s manager would tell the band to be in the lobby of the hotel at a certain time but he and Hayley wouldn’t show for hours. We found out that they had been meeting with record label executives all morning without us, which was totally weird because this wasn’t simply a solo artist, but a band. The band was in the dark the whole time.”
Williams: Oh my. OK, so first of all, that wasn’t my manager.
Davis: And even if it was in the beginning, but we’ve been touring for, how long now?
Williams: But that’s the part of the story that could be so easily be misconstrued, because, as I said, I was offered a contract, and my whole mission as a 14-year-old person who was being courted by these people was to turn them away from me and let them see what we were doing as a band. There’s been a lot of people who have tried to use us — in the beginning — for their own good, and we’ve been lucky enough to get out of that each and every time and make it once again about us so I didn’t even know that part was in there, and I think that’s so irrelevant, because I barely even remember that.
Davis: And, by the way, Hayley being two hours late is usually around correct anyway.
MTV: Every time we would talk while you were writing this record, time and time again you would say, “Josh wrote this amazing guitar part, and I wrote these lyrics,” so it wasn’t just you like, “I did this!”
Williams: I couldn’t do that with a straight face. I can’t. First of all, I can’t take myself seriously at all, in the least. But yeah, it’s just embarrassing when people brag about themselves. I definitely can’t be that kind of person. I don’t know, I just can’t.
MTV: The second part [of the statement] is the idea of signing to the label, and these various machinations of “You’re signed to Atlantic, but you’re Fueled by Ramen.” A lot of these things have been covered in the past. We wrote articles three years ago about 360 deals, stuff like that. But it all sort of culminates in this statement. “In reality, something that started off as natural, somehow morphed into a manufactured product of a major label, riding the coattails of Hayley’s dreams.” So how does it feel? Honestly, this is a band that is on Atlantic records, so it is a major-label rock band. About this record, we wrote that it was the best major-label rock record of 2009. So what is your reaction to this thing, “it is a manufactured product of a major label”?
Williams: Well, I don’t get how it could’ve started natural if we were … if it was all about me anyway, it wouldn’t have started natural if it was all about me anyway. … But we’re not a manufactured band. We’ve dealt with that rumor for a long time, and that’s because of the rumors of FBR and Atlantic’s relationship. We’ve always talked about that, and I think it was a few months ago, right after the Honda Civic Tour, that I addressed this exact topic on our LiveJournal, saying, “When we started, I again fought that this would be a band thing, and I fought for something that we could really work hard and start from the ground.” That’s the kind of music that I love, and that’s the kind of music we’ve all shared interest in since day one, and we wanted to be that kind of band. We wanted to be those kind of people that work for whatever they’re going to get. We didn’t know it would turn into this. Thank God it did, because we got to experience so many cool things, but we got very lucky that Fueled By Ramen and Atlantic were already working with other bands together, before we ever signed. So, our first record was not on Atlantic, it was on Fueled by Ramen, and then when we started to pick up interest, Atlantic began once again to be interested in us.
MTV: And there are mentions of dating and …
Williams: [laughing] What? I never dated anyone!
MTV: Did you not read this statement? The interesting part was when we first started to meet you and interview you was when Brand New Eyes was being made, and the thing you said time and time again was, “This is the record that sort of saved the band, to the brink and back, we really fought each other to make this record.” And the [Farros'] statement is basically, “Hayley claimed that this reunited us as a band and made us grow closer when in reality, we were all growing further apart.” So there are obviously two different viewpoints.
Davis: If he can speak for the half of us, that’s not really fair either.
York: I think, in all fairness, I think we, at the time, we all did believe that’s what it was, absolutely. We had the best time of our band’s career when we were making that record, and things change. I think we all believed that, and we were wrong. And that’s just how life is: We made a statement that we believed in, and it didn’t turn out the way we thought it would.
MTV: We’ve said several times that Brand New Eyes is a great record. At the time, the record was about addressing “nameless naysayers and faceless detractors,” “the people at large.” Going back and listening to it [now], there are an alarming number of songs that can specifically be interpreted as being about Josh Farro. “Careful,” “Ignorance,” “Playing God,” maybe “Misguided Ghosts.” Were you essentially then writing about this conflict that he talked about in his statement? Were you writing songs about the conflict between you two?
Williams: I would say that a large majority of those songs, yes, have to do with the relationship that we had, and then we had to mend. And it was really hard, because we were all friends, and then going through a breakup, and going through any kind of tension as a band, really affected all the lyrics, even if they weren’t about just Josh and I or just me and Taylor. Everything we were going through had an overall effect on the tone of what I was saying, but there are a lot of specifics that I pulled from my experience with just feeling like my face was underneath a boot all the time. I think that the point of the album was never to point out those things, but hopefully to encourage people that feel that way. Because I felt so alone in that fight that I would never want, especially another young woman, to feel that way, because I know there are a lot of girls I’ve talked to, fans, go through the same thing in relationships and families, and it just sucks to feel kind of victimized in a way that you don’t want to feel petty, so every level of it really sucks.
MTV: It only adds a new level to the record. There’s a lot of things in here. They mention in their statement that there’s a lyric in “Careful”: “The truth never set me free so I did it myself,” which they sort of see as you [denouncing] a Bible scripture. Can you talk about that lyric in particular, because it’s gotten a lot of attention?
York: Well, I’ll talk about that. When Hayley first came to us with those lyrics, we had a massive talk about it, because they voiced their concern. And the first thing Hayley said was, “Well, I get that, but honestly my intention is for it to say, ‘Your truth really set me free.’ I just didn’t change it, but that’s what I really mean.” She wasn’t saying “truth” as in what we believe in: She was saying “truth” as in what other people want you to believe, what they see as truth. It was never about what they are saying it’s about. It’s about other people forcing their beliefs on you, and if you don’t meet their requirements, then you’re doing a bad job. So, that was really misconstrued.
MTV: But there are other mentions here. There’s, in “Ignorance,” “It’s not a war. No, it’s not a Rapture.” A biblical reference, “Playing God,” a lot of that in there. Did you guys have a disagreement in faith? ‘Cause they mentioned faith — God a lot — with their reasoning to [leave the band]. Was that part of your disagreement, issues of faith? Because they also mentioned that you two in particular [to Williams and Davis] started making choices that they disagree with.
Davis: All right!
Williams: Right on! [laughs] I was surprised, honestly. I mean, yeah, we’ve had discussions about it, and it’s not like I never knew that they thought I believed something different. But I was surprised by the extent of it, because I so clearly believe in the same thing as I have since — oh, I don’t know — since I made the decision to believe what I believe in. And the difference is, in what I’m learning, I think it’s a great thing about faith is that each person is who they are and you can’t change that no matter what you try to do. You are who you are, and faith can be yours, you know? I’m not saying that it adapts so you make your own rules the whole time, but I believe in what I believe in so strongly, but it might not look like what someone else believes in. Just because I’m a Christian doesn’t mean that I have to pray at the same time as someone else every day.
MTV: You live with your faith, and your faith lives within you. It’s this thing where it’s malleable and such, but were there arguments about faith?
Williams: I don’t really remember.
Davis: Most of our record was about friendship, and I felt like that’s kind of a weird line where people … where it can be thought of as a faith thing. It all was a friendship thing. All of us started out really young and started growing up, and you go through a lot of changes, and being on the road and away from the family and [the band] is your new family. It all gets really tough. And when anybody changes, it’s hard to really look [at it]. I’m changing, it’s like, “Is that a bad thing? Is that a good thing?” That is what the record’s about. That’s how we came up with the title. You have to look at your friends with a brand new set of eyes.
Williams: Yeah, and the references I would say to spiritual warfare and anything spiritual at all are probably just because it is a big part of me, so for me to talk about something metaphorically or use an analogy, it’s very easy for me to use faith ’cause, to me, it’s so applicable to almost every single thing that I go through in my life. For me to say, “It’s not a war, it’s not a Rapture” is like saying, “It’s not the end of the world. It’s not everyone being wiped off the face of the earth and all these insane things happening. This is just life.”
MTV: Right, there are no horsemen. But you mentioned growing up and changing, and it must be very difficult for you in particular to have to answer for decisions that you made when you were 13 or 14 years old. And it’s the thing that has always been with this band in a way. Would you agree with that?
Williams: Yeah. I definitely wouldn’t want any 14-year-old to be held accountable at 22 years old for whatever decisions they made. But I think that, first of all, I had a great family that looked out for me, and I think that I had a good head on my shoulders because of them and because of the friends that I had to help me make good decisions, ’cause I don’t think I can see one thing that’s gone wrong since I was 14. It’s been a breeze, and it’s been so much fun, and yeah, there’s hard times, but I think I’d be going through that if I worked at Burger King. No matter what, if I was in college. The difference is people wouldn’t be looking at it or care about any blogs I posted about it.
MTV: It’s interesting that we are in this basement where you guys shot the “Playing God” video. At the time — you talked about in an interview — about [the video] closing the book on Brand New Eyes. When you made this video, had the Farros told you they were going to leave? And was that odd to make the video then?
Williams: It didn’t feel like any other video shoot. Well, it did and it didn’t. It didn’t feel any different in the sense that the friendships that were the weakest were still the weakest. We got along the same way. But … it felt way too similar to the things that were going on. It was definitely creepy. But I had a lot of fun on it. I definitely think that it was personal in a way that it was so easy to relate to that we just didn’t feel like working at all.
MTV: About moving forward, Taylor, you in particular, we’ve talked off-camera, and you’ve always said, “Oh, this awards show. I don’t really do awards shows. I’m not really an awards-show type of guy.” You’re kind of like an “indie” guy. You’re someone who shares a faith with the Farros and also has known them for a long time, so, why did you then decide to stick around?
York: I think, in all fairness to the Farros, they started at a really young age too, we all did, and I think there’s always been times where all of us might have a bad day and been like, “I don’t want to be in this band.” So, of course, I’ve had those days. But today, I still love what I’m doing, and I think it was hard for me because, yeah, they’re really dear to me, and so it was weird watching them go. But I still want to do this, and I couldn’t let their decisions affect my heart and my passions. And the fact that the three of us still want to do this and make music, who knows if the three of us will ever get this chance again, so we’re going to take advantage of it.
MTV: The tour starts shows in February. Are you going to be playing leads now? Has this been discussed?
York: I think. Yeah, there’s been a lot of talk of that, about like, yeah, I’m really playing drums and guitar [laughing]. Everyone’s like, “You’re taking Josh’s spot,” and, in a way, this is also a business, and I think when any business downsizes, you don’t just take over someone’s title: Everyone’s title changes to fit the mold. So there are some things that I am going to have to do that Josh did, some parts, but at the same time, I have no intentions of being the new Josh, taking over his parts. That’s not really what I want to do. So, yeah, I’ll be doing some lead stuff, but I love what I get to do, and I still intend on doing that.
MTV: Jeremy, obviously you’ve been with the band for a long time. Was there any doubt ever whether you were going to continue on with this?
Davis: No, there was no question about it. I’ve quit jobs before, and I’m like, “Hey man, I’m out. Sorry, it’s not my thing,” and I’ll leave, and I’ll never hear from them again, because they want to continue their job. And this has been our heart and passion, and anyone can tell that. Our fans end up crashing websites because [they're] so hardcore, and it’s been every bit of our passion to have those fans and keep those fans and work for those fans, and make ‘em feel like family anytime — whether we’re getting off a plane and it’s been 23 hours and no sleep, no matter what the time is — they’ve been our passion and our heart. So, no, it’s never been close to an option for me. It really sucks because I feel like our family on the road, it really sucks to lose a part [of it], or feel like you’re losing a part. Like I said in the beginning, I’d rather they be happy somewhere else. That’s gonna make everyone else happy. And, you know what? If they’re happier somewhere else, we might be happier this way. Who knows? So we’ll see. Things change, and you kinda gotta just go with it.
MTV: You have a couple of months until the shows, so I’m assuming you’re going to have to start auditioning people. How do you plan on filling two positions?
Williams: We have fill-ins for the South American tour. We’re going to have Justin York, Taylor’s brother, who has filled in with us before and is also in Relient K, which is very exciting for him. So he’s going to help us out on guitar, and they’re gonna work out who does leads, not leads. And Josh Freese on the drums. No big deal at all, just one of our favorite drummers.
York: But, to clarify, this is for one tour, so …
MTV: [laughing] Josh Freese is not joining Paramore?
York: No. We haven’t even started tackling what it’s going to look like with new members. We have one more tour planned, and so we already know how we’re going to get through it, and then we’ll tackle what’s next.
MTV: How will it feel to take the stage with these “hired guns,” as they call it? A different band? Will you miss something?
Williams: I really am going to miss Zac a whole lot. Zac is one of my favorite drummers in the world, and he has been since he was 13 years old. That’s really going to suck. But I don’t want him to ever not be happy. And … if he stayed, and for me to turn around and not see him happy, that would suck worse than not seeing him at all. I think that will be the hardest part to get used to. I mean, yes, Josh Freese, incredible drummer. I think he’s the best guy we could’ve gotten to come do this tour with us, but no one will ever replace Zac in my heart. Zac is one of my favorite people. And you know what? Yeah, it will suck, but I think that now that we are so unified that the three of us know exactly what we’re doing, we want to be here so bad, and I think that’s going to feel really good, to know that we’re not dragging anyone around, we’re not making anyone do anything they don’t want to do, that’s going to be exciting. And I guess I don’t have any regrets about it. I just feel like, “Let’s just start this new chapter already,” because it can only be great. We’re not going to let ourselves not be great. We’re gonna make it good.
MTV: On [Twitter] there’s a lot about Yahtzee playing, but there’s also one tweet about a new demo that Taylor wrote? So is this the first demo that you have brought to these two?
York: Yeah. We’re just getting started and putting out our feelers. This is the very beginning, and so we wanted to get it started, and so that’s the first thing.
Williams: It’s good. He’s too humble to say it’s good, but I’ll say it for him: It’s awesome. I’m really excited. Me and Taylor have written together since we were kids, so I guess I still feel like a kid right now. But since we were little kids and I have no doubt in my mind, he’s a great writer, and I’m excited.
MTV: You did an interview saying you were gonna take some time off and work on a record. Is there any way we’re going to see a Paramore record [in 2011]? Do you think that’s even in the realm of possibility?
Williams: We will definitely release songs next year. Who knows if a full album will come out of it, but obviously we’d love that. It would be fun. We definitely want to put stuff out for our fans to party with us, but who knows when that will be? Hopefully, sooner rather than later.
MTV: If you look at any [Paramore] stories [on MTVNews.com], [the comments] are two-thirds [in favor of] you guys. But there’s definitely one-third who are fans of Josh, fans of Zac, and are maybe afraid that this band will be different or they’ve maybe just given up on the band. For the ones who are afraid of “What does this mean for the band?” “I really like the stuff that Josh wrote,” what can you say to them?
York: Well, the thing is: We’re going to be different. We lost two really big parts of this band, so it’s going to be different. But we’re still Paramore. We’ve all written together before, so it’s not like we’re losing our style. We’re not going to become an R&B-soul-funk band … We’re more excited than ever, and we’re not going to put out something that’s not good. Next year, when we say we’re taking time off, it means we’re writing until we have something that’s great. And we’re not going to stop until it’s great. So yeah, things are gonna be different. I think it’s kinda cool to see. It’s gonna be good. I don’t think it’s a negative thing. But of course, Josh and Zac were a really big part of the band, so people are going to miss them and it’s natural. But, we’re here now, and here we go.
MTV: [The split with the Farros] is done now, the year’s over, but what did each of you guys take from this experience and how do you view Josh and Zac?
Williams: I’m trying not to view anyone at all, except for people that are close to me, because if you listen to one opinion that’s out there, then you listen to all of them. I guess I’m just learning that you can’t prove to anyone who you are, you just have to be it. You can’t make someone think anything about you, because they’re just going to think what they want. I guess we’re just going to do it really right this time … it’s going to be fun to kind of just not have to think about what someone’s thinking about me. I know that, for me personally, I’m just gonna feel — and I don’t even mean this in a negative way to Josh and Zac — but I’m definitely starting to feel a lot more free about myself, and I think maybe that’s just me growing up. But the people I have around me, Taylor and Jeremy, I feel very supported and loved as a person, and that’s a rare thing in this world.
Davis: What did I take from this whole thing? I don’t know. I know that Taylor was saying that growing up we learn a lot, and I definitely learned that I’m gonna be the person that I’m gonna be, no matter what anyone else thinks. I’m just really glad to see that almost all of our fans [stuck] with us, and they see the fact that we’re here saying that, “Listen, we’re still here for you guys,” and they’re 10 times as supportive back. I’m just glad that they feel [that way], ’cause I was really worried about all our fans and stuff. We spent so much time working on growing, like being friends with them and talking with them online and making sure everything we do is for them, even in writing records: “Let’s have parts where they can sing back! Interact with the crowd!” It’s always been about that, and I feel like our fans are, since they’re growing up with us, not all are the same age, but I feel like they’re learning with us. And it’s really cool to feel that. And honestly, all their support has been good too because we’ve been a group for so long, so it’s a lot on our minds as well, so it’s been really good to have the support from them all. And yeah, you gotta move forward. I’m excited about it. It could be something great. I know that it’s gonna be so nice with all of us just being the way we are together and everything. It’s just so good — very positive.
York: I think in life there are always trying experiences, and this is one that I think has really challenged all of us to grow up a lot. It’s been really testing handling the situation with as much respect as we can, and trying to dignify people and not slander anyone. We’ve grown up a lot through this, and every time you go through something like this, you have the option to just act out of emotion, and do things you might regret, or you can try to do honestly the right thing, and I think that’s what we’ve been trying to do. And so, I don’t know, just things change and we’ve been doing our best to do handle it well, to finish this season well. And yeah, we’re excited, and I think we’ve just learned a lot about relationships and communication, so we’re going to do things a lot different now, and we’re all just incredibly excited for the future.
MTV: You mentioned “doing things different this time.” Is that in terms of communication? Writing? How will you do things differently? What did you mean by that?
York: Obviously we’re humans, so we’re not perfect … we mess up. So I think the best way to move forward is to look at your mistakes and your victories and learn from them. Avoid things and focus on other things. We’ve had problems with communication, and that’s honestly the biggest thing. Even a lot of this … a lot of things have been misconstrued, things we haven’t ever talked about, things we’re kind of hearing for the first time or that we assumed but are actually seeing it in writing or something. But communication is huge, and even things with songwriting and pretty much everything, I think we’re just trying things that we’ve never tried, things we never have the freedom [to try], just things we’ve never talked about. I think that’s gonna effect a lot of different areas.
MTV: Going forward, there has to be some part of you that wants to prove these people [wrong] — to prove Josh and Zac wrong, that you want to make something that is lasting and powerful, and [have] the final word on it. Is there a part of you inside that wants to do that: to prove these people who jumped off the ship, who’ve written the band off, wrong?
Williams: I think if there wasn’t any part of us that wanted to react, then we would be perfect, and that would suck, quite frankly. You want to react, you want to say things back, and counter every point that’s made, but what’s the point? What’s the purpose of that? It’s just gonna never stop. It would never end if we dealt with it that way, and to me, that would be so unfair to our online community we’ve built and our fans have built. We’re not trying to create some drama for everyone to talk about, because that takes the focus away from what it should be, which is our music and something positive we’re building and still want to build onto. I mean, yeah, I would love to just throw punches and be pissed and angry and say things that I would just regret five minutes later.
MTV: Perhaps the final word will be whatever you guys make [next]. The ultimate triumph, the ultimate vindication, is making another record that is killer, you know?
Williams: Well, first, making a record at all would be a triumph. I think that’s a triumph any time a band gets to make another album. I was surprised we made it to three albums, and I was stoked. But yeah, it being a great record will be our way of sort of saying, “No one can take this away from us, no matter what.”

BIKINI BOAT COUPLE: Nicole Murphy & Michael Strahan Get Frisky In Barbados

Engaged couple Nicole Murphy and Michael Strahan took a little romantic boat ride in Barbados yesterday. And while we’re dodging ginormous snowflakes here on the east coast, Nicole Murphy hopped around in her skimpy green bikini flaunting her bangin’ body.
We’ve got more pics of the boating couple when you read on…

Yes–Nicole always looks like she just rolled off the plastic surgeon’s table. But clearly she does what she needs to do to be happy. And she looks HOT. Funny that she finds ways and means to boat around the Caribbean even when she’s broke. Better hope Michael was better with his NFL money then you were with your divorce money girl….

Work it out then Nicole. Wonder when the wedding is….

Coldplay’s new British stamps

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.’s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones‘ Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin‘s IV, David Bowie‘s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield‘s Tubular Bells, The Clash‘s London Calling, New Order‘s Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream‘s Screamadelica, Pink Floyd‘s The Division Bell, Blur‘s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay‘s A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Meant to honor “the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people’s lives,” the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album’s iconic imagery.
“Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him,” he said. “That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time.”
Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan “a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today’s issue date.”
“We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps,” the message read. “Very nice they are too.”

Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon And More 2011 Movie Pairs
Brad Pitt & Jonah Hill and Johnny Depp & Penelope Cruz also will team up onscreen this year.
By Eric Ditzian
Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon in “Water for Elephants”
Photo: 20th Century Fox
As frigid temperatures and frozen banks of filthy snow have taken hold outside the MTV News offices in Times Square, we’ve been warming ourselves with thoughts of what’s to come at the multiplex in 2011, where heavy doses of buttered popcorn and Sno-caps will keep us content all year round.
In the months to come, we’ll take in a series of films featuring highly anticipated twosomes, some romantic and others platonic, some heavy on explosive laughs, and others featuring heavy explosions. Here are our picks for the big-screen pairings we’re most looking forward to checking out this year:
Robert Pattinson & Reese Witherspoon in “Water for Elephants”
Sure, RPattz will once again share the screen opposite Kristen Stewart in 2011, but he’s been mining the same limited “Twilight” material for a while now, and we’re keen to see how he manages when his character has more emotional motivation than simply protecting his beloved.
While we enjoyed his turn in last year’s romantic drama “Remember Me,” a performance opposite the Oscar-winning Witherspoon in “Elephants” will mark Pattinson’s biggest opportunity yet to establish himself as a formidable talent.
The first trailer mostly showcased RPattz in smoldering default mode. Can the 24-year-old Brit step it up? Can his chemistry with Witherspoon begin to compare, in fan’s eyes, with the Bella-Edward-Jacob love triangle? Answers will arrive with the film’s release in April.
Brad Pitt & Jonah Hill in “Moneyball”
At first glance, we’ll admit, this seems like an odd match. But consider: Hill is just beginning to scratch the surface of his acting range, as his deeply strange and strangely affecting turn in “Cyrus” made clear. Pitt, meanwhile, is a proven comedic talent.
The two play fast-talking, ego-heavy execs for the Oakland A’s. With a dramatic, real-life story line about the hard-scrabble, small-market ball club and a script that got a makeover from dialogue whiz Aaron Sorkin, “Moneyball” has the perfect framework for a memorable dynamic between Pitt and Hill.
Shia LaBeouf & Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”
One can hardly call what LaBeouf and Megan Fox shared onscreen in two “Transformers” flicks “magical,” so LaBeouf and Huntington-Whiteley’s pairing in “Dark of the Moon” won’t be a case of recapturing cinematic gold. Yet the comparisons will be inevitable, even if Michael Bay’s directing for his leading “Transformers” ladies seems to begin and end with, “Look hot!”
We look forward to seeing how LaBeouf and Huntington-Whiteley play off each other, one a savvy vet of Spielberg and Stone movies, the other a Victoria’s Secret model making her big-screen debut.
Johnny Depp & Penelope Cruz in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”
Jack Sparrow’s adventures on the high seas have usually taken precedence over his adventures in the bedroom. “On Stranger Tides” could well change all that.
With Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley out of the picture, the head-butting between Depp’s Captain Jack and Cruz’s swashbuckling beauty will take center stage. Are we ready to see the softer side of the dreadlocked pirate?
Simon Pegg & Nick Frost in “Paul”
Has it really been almost four years since these comedic pals were onscreen together in “Hot Fuzz”? Any time the British funnymen get together, we’ll be first in line for a ticket. This year will bring them back for a third cinematic turn, following “Fuzz” and 2004′s “Shaun of the Dead.”
“Paul” is a sci-fi comedy in which Pegg and Frost play conspiracy-minded friends on a road trip to a purported alien-landing sight, where — much to their surprise — they actually discover an alien. Frost and Pegg excel when challenging themselves with such high-concept comedic obstacles, and if the film’s trailers are any indication, they’ve got another winner on their hands.
Daniel Craig & Rooney Mara in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”
The role of troubled hacker Lisbeth Salander was one of the most coveted in Hollywood last year until Mara, a relative unknown, won the part. She’ll star opposite Craig, who plays journalist (and Salander’s love interest) Mikael Blomkvist.
The “Tattoo” stars have a lot to live up to: The book on which the film is based was a best-seller across the globe, and the Swedish adaptation has garnered plaudits from critics and audiences alike. But we’ve got high hopes: David Fincher is in the director’s chair, and the story line sizzles with emotional stakes and high-tension plot twists.
Which onscreen pairing are you most looking forward to in 2011? Tell us your pick in the comments below!

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Didn’t Seem To Know CPR, Bodyguard Testifies
Jackson’s two oldest children were in bedroom witnessing drama, bodyguard Faheem Muhammed said.

One of the most shocking revelations to emerge from the first day of testimony in the pretrial hearing of former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray is that as the pop icon lay dying in his rented Los Angeles mansion, cardiologist Murray asked in a panic, “Does anyone know CPR?”
According to CNN, that’s what bodyguard Faheem Muhammed said on the stand. Tuesday was the first day of testimony in hearings aimed at determining whether there is enough evidence to try Murray on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the King of Pop.
The hearing is slated to last around two weeks and feature 20 to 30 witnesses, most of whom will be medical professionals. But it was the shocking testimony of Muhammed on Tuesday that grabbed headlines. He said that he and fellow guard Alberto Alvarez walked in on a scene in which Murray was crouched next to the motionless body of Jackson and it appeared that the heart surgeon did not know how to give CPR.
As they waited for paramedics to arrive, Muhammed said Murray stood next to Jackson’s bed and asked in a panicked voice if anyone else in the room knew how to administer the life-saving technique.
“I looked at Alberto because we knew Dr. Murray was a heart surgeon, so we were shocked,” Muhammed said. When defense attorney Ed Chernoff asked whether Murray was asking for help because he was exhausted after staying up all night administering sleep aids to the chronically insomniac Jackson, Muhammed replied, “The way that he asked it is as if he didn’t know CPR.” He also said that he never witnessed Murray performing CPR on Jackson before paramedics arrived and that the singer’s two oldest children, Prince Michael and Paris, were in their father’s bedroom as the drama was unfolding. Among the Jackson family members in court on Tuesday to watch the proceedings were family matriarch Katherine, sister LaToya and brothers Randy and Jackie.
Prosecutor David Walgren referred to Murray’s use of “ineffectual” CPR, which included using one hand while Jackson was on a soft bed, which is counter to recommended techniques. Walgren also told the judge in the case that medical experts would testify that Murray took “a number of actions” that “showed an extreme deviation from the standard of care,” after being hired to serve as Jackson’s personal physician in the lead-up to a series of comeback shows in England.
The prosecutor also claimed that Murray waited at least 21 minutes to call an ambulance after he found Jackson unresponsive. “By all accounts, Michael Jackson was dead in the bedroom at 100 North Carolwood prior to the paramedics’ arrival,” Walgren said. The Los Angeles County coroner later determined that the singer died of “acute propofol intoxication,” saying the overdose of the surgical anesthetic and the combined effects of other sedatives caused his death.
Chernoff has said that Murray administered propofol and other sedatives to Jackson in the hours before the pop star’s death, but not in quantities that “should have” caused his death. CNN reported that Murray’s defense team hinted that it would argue that Jackson was facing intense pressure over his upcoming 50-date This Is It comeback series of shows at London’s O2 Arena and that led to his demands for treatment to help his chronic insomnia.
Also testifying on Tuesday was the director of the shows, Kenny Ortega, who described Jackson as “involved, active, participating” at his final rehearsal, which ended 12 hours before his death. That was very different from the out-of-it singer who could barely make it through rehearsals on June 19, six nights before his death. At a meeting called after Ortega sent Jackson home that night for some rest, the director described a scene in which Murray scolded him for cutting the rehearsal short.
“Dr. Murray told me that this was not my responsibility, and he asked me not to act like a doctor or psychologist,” Ortega said. Murray has pleaded not guilty in the case, and according to a recent report, Walgren believes that the doctor’s lawyers may claim that Jackson self-administered the final, fatal dose of propofol and essentially killed himself after waking up in a panic from a fitful night of sleep.
Testimony in the case will continue on Wednesday (January 5).

Raven-Symone Isn’t Sweating Her Major Weight Loss
Raven-Symoné showed off a significantly slimmed-down figure at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday — but she doesn’t think it’s such a big deal. The former That’s So Raven and The Cosby Show star was always proud of the curvy figure she developed in her teens. Now that she’s lost some weight, the young actress finds all the attention a little strange.
"Now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me," she told People. "I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons."
As for whether she’s more comfortable in her new body, Raven-Symone says that’s never been a problem.
"I thought I looked fabulous before and nobody else did," she says. "So, whatever."
Among popular tween stars, Raven-Symoné has always seemed unusually poised and self-confident. Unlike, say, Miley Cyrus, who seems to try out a new image every few weeks, Raven always seemed to have her own opinions and a strong sense of self. And the actress has always been outspoken about her inability to maintain the typical "Hollywood" figure. In a 2009 NPR interview, she talked about her choice to accept her body as it is.
"I’ve definitely had obstacles in my career – my whole entire career – to stay a certain weight, to get smaller than I have been, but I look at my family, I look at where I come from and that’s not really in our genes," she explained. "Yes, I go exercise; I eat right; I have a nutritionist — but I can’t fulfill what is quote/unquote ‘the beauty number’ of what you’re supposed to be on the scale. I can’t do that. And you know what? I’m sorry if that keeps me from getting jobs, if that keeps me from being in certain clothes. I can’t do it. "
But somehow, obviously, Raven-Symoné has now slimmed down to a sample size. She’s not saying how she did it, but says that she’d recently gained a lot of weight while stressing over her new ABC Family pilot, The Great State of Georgia, in which she plays a sweet Southern singer/actress trying to make it to Broadway. Interestingly, her starring character is described as "an exuberant curvy performer." If the show gets picked up, will she need to put the pounds back on? Doesn’t matter to us — Raven-Symoné has proved that she’s fabulous at any weight.

Justin Bieber’s Early Drummer Days Featured In ‘Never Say Never’
Friends and family talk about Bieber’s evolution as a drummer in new clip from upcoming 3-D film.

The February 11 release of John Chu’s 3-D doc “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is fast approaching, and in addition to the Biebs’ many tweets about the flick, we now have another glimpse at what it has in store for eager fans. A new clip from the film shows how Bieber’s talent for drums surfaced at a young age. It’s also full of more cute Bieber baby videos.
“He never had any lessons or anything. I just never thought of it being anything other than for fun,” Bieber’s mother, Pattie Malette, says in the clip.
Bieber’s drum collection quickly expanded from a handheld drum to a mini drum kit, and eventually, his family friends held a benefit concert and raised enough money to buy the young prodigy his own set of Pearl drums.
The 16-year-old pop star made waves at the 2010 VMAs when he rocked out on the drums during his amplified set. He also showed off his skills on the skins at the 2009 Jingle Ball in Sacramento, where he played an impressive drum solo during Cobra Starship’s performance. Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, who had been trying to challenge Bieber to a dance off, tweeted after the fact, “Justin Bieber smoked me hard tonight. He couldn’t win the dance off. But he shredded a gnarly drum solo. I back this kid on the real. Legit.”
Bieber wouldn’t be the first artist to start out behind the kit before his vocal capabilities propelled him to the spotlight. He joins the powerful ranks of drummers-turned-singers such as Dave Grohl, Phil Collins, Karen Carpenter, Ringo Starr and Tommy Lee.

Britney Spears Vs. Lady Gaga: Fans Weigh In
Fans are split between Gaga and Britney as 2011′s Queen of Pop.

On Monday, MTV News tried to forecast whether Lady Gaga or Britney Spears will be 2011′s ruling diva. And while our experts decided it was sort of a toss-up, commenters on our predictions had very strong opinions on that epic question. With nearly 1,500 posts between the Newsroom blog and the Gaga vs. Britney article, here are the results of fans’ votes on the matter.
Spears won the poll on the Newsroom blog with more than 60 percent of the vote. Britney fanatics stated their overwhelming support for the singer. “The one and only legend Britney Spears from past to present, she’s the most popular on the planet,” Jojo wrote. “We the supporters love Britney Spears a lot. We buy her perfume, CDs … we are here for her. The legend is coming through.”
Daniel wrote, “You never know what to expect from Lady Gaga but I think that THE REAL QUEEN OF POP is back … TEAM BRITNEY!” Meanwhile, commenter CrazySpears wrote, “I think GAGA is ok but people can never compare her with Britney … you know Britney is the Queen.”
But Gaga’s little monsters were also out in full support of their mother monster. “Born This Way will be the album of the decade and that’s a fact,” Little wrote. “2011 is Gaga’s year, again.”
Imtherealbatman wrote, “LADY GAGA FTW! Lady Gaga is the shizz dude. She is going to win this war. I LOVE YOU LADY GAGA!” Another Gaga commenter, Carl, added, “WHAT COMPETITION IS THERE !?! Have you not seen the impact Lady Gaga has done to pop culture today?! Bringing dance music back on the scene, creating a buzz by standing up for gay rights, connecting to her fans in a way NO other artist has!?”
In the end, commenter Kyle proposed that it’s really anyone’s game. “Well, just in case you were saying I’m not a devoted Gaga fan, you’re wrong. Born This Way is all I think about. But I love Britney just as much. And neither is superior,” he wrote. “They are famous for their own reasons and it doesn’t matter what they are. What matters is how much devotion and loyalty they get from fans. Britney’s fanbase has been and always will be huge. Just like Gaga’s is growing strong.”
Who do you think will rule in 2011, Lady Gaga or Britney Spears? Tell us in the comments below!

Ashley Tisdale Shows Off Shorter Hair Cut
Confession time. I’ve never really cared about Ashley Tisdale. I didn’t love her or hate her. She’s a lot younger than me and I’m not drawn to her personal life at all. Things changed a few weeks ago when I saw her on ‘Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition’. A family in need had a little girl who simply adored the singer and Ashley came on the show, helped build their new house and performed for the town. I thought that was REALLY nice and now I love Ashley.Yes, it’s that easy to change my mind like that. Here she is showing off a new shorter do and leaving a Beverly Hills hair salon. Paramore’s Hayley Williams Feels ‘More Free’ Than Ever
Watch the full interview on ‘Paramore: The Last Word,’ live on MTV.com today at 4 p.m. ET.
By James Montgomery
Paramore’s Taylor York and Hayley Williams
Photo: MTV News
FRANKLIN, Tennessee — All week, we’ve been rolling out Paramore’s reactions and responses to Josh Farro’s “Exit Statement” from the band he helped found. Which is to say, up until this point, we’ve been dealing almost exclusively with the past: the events that led to Farro posting his missive on December 21 and the fallout that occurred immediately afterward.
All of that ends now. Because, as you’ll see Friday (January 7) at 4 p.m. ET — when MTV News presents “Paramore: The Last Word,” a live stream on MTV.com — Paramore couldn’t wait to put the past behind them and talk about their plans for the future.
You probably already know that they’re pushing ahead with a South American tour in February, with Taylor York’s brother Justin filling in on guitars and drummer-to-the-stars Josh Freese behind the kit. And, if you’ve read Hayley Williams’ tweets, you’re definitely aware that Paramore are already writing and demoing songs. But how will they replace the contributions of Josh Farro, who co-wrote the bulk of their last two albums? Well, they won’t. At least not entirely.
“Well, I think, yeah, there’s been a lot of talk of that. Everyone’s like, ‘You’re taking Josh’s spot,’ ” Taylor York told MTV News. “[But] in a way, this is a business, and I think when any business downsizes, you don’t just take over someone’s title; everyone’s title changes to fit the mold. So there are some things that I am going to have to do that Josh did, some parts, but at the same time, I have no intentions of being the new Josh, taking over his parts. That’s not really what I want to do. So, yeah, I’ll be doing some lead stuff, but I love what I get to do, and I still intend on doing that.”
You can hear a lot more about the band’s future plans — including releasing new songs in 2011 — during our live stream, but making music is only part of the equation. In the wake of the Farro brothers’ split, the remaining members of Paramore have also forged a new bond, which Williams said will carry them not just toward a new album, but beyond.
“I guess we’re just going to do it really right this time. … It’s going to be fun to kind of just not have to think about what someone’s thinking about me,” she said. “I know that, for me personally, I’m just gonna feel, and I don’t even mean this in a negative way to Josh and Zac, but I’m definitely starting to feel a lot more free about myself, and I think maybe that’s just me growing up, but the people I have around me — Taylor and Jeremy — I feel very supported and loved, as a person, and that’s a rare thing in this world.”
And she didn’t stop there, either, but you’re going to have to wait for the “Last Word” live stream to hear the rest. And speaking of that live stream, we’d love to include your voice in the show, and judging by the sheer volume of comments our stories have gotten, you have plenty to say. You can upload videos to Your.MTV.com or tweet your take with the hashtag #lastword, and we might just use it.
MTV News will be unveiling our exclusive interview with Paramore today at 4 p.m. ET with “Paramore: The Last Word,” a live stream on MTV.com that will feature in-depth analysis of the band’s future, real-time discussion with their biggest fans and exclusive footage of the band, past and present.

Coca-Cola’s Crammer Keeper App Makes Studying As Simple As Singing A Tune
Students these days have it so easy. Laptops and tablets have virtually eliminated the need for notebooks and textbooks. The internet has made sitting in a classroom unnecessary. And now Coca-Cola has created the Crammer Keeper app that makes retaining course material easy. Ever noticed how you can remember the lyrics to the #1 song or an oldies hit, but have a difficult time remembering your school or work notes? Well the new Crammer Keeper is a free app that lets you turn your notes into a catchy tune, so you can remember them in a fun way. All you have to do is input your notes, select your preferred voice, choose a music genre (hip hop, rock, pop, etc.), and then download the song. You can even share it with friends, classmates, or colleagues. I’m not in school, but I’m thinking the Crammer Keeper will help me remember names and blogs of colleagues, instead of only remembering their Twitter handles.

Grammy Hits And Misses: Ke$ha Shut Out, Bruno Mars Cleans Up
Big Boi and Alicia Keys are also left out, but Florence and the Machine and Ray LaMontagne get some much-deserved love.
By Gil Kaufman

What would the annual Grammy nominations announcement be without the next-day quarterbacking and bellyaching about who got dissed and who got just the right amount of Academy love?
While this year’s batch of contenders is mostly devoid of the WTF factor of past nomination seasons, when veteran acts such as Steely Dan, Robert Plant and Herbie Hancock sucked most of the air out of the room, there were still plenty of surprises, omissions and flat-out questionable choices to go around.
The one most people were buzzing about Thursday (December 2) was the blank delivered to Ke$ha, who earned a grand total of zero nominations for her debut, Animal, despite launching several hits and earning a major spot in the pop-culture universe in 2010. The snub was even more noticeable because one of her producers, Dr. Luke, was nominated in the producer category and four of the eight songs that earned him that spot were from Ke$ha’s debut.
We spoke to Entertainment Weekly music critic Leah Greenblatt about that oversight and many others in this year’s nominations. She said the Ke$ha situation was surprising, especially considering the love that the similarly poptastic Katy Perry got for Teenage Dream, which has sold well but, like Animal, was not critically adored upon release.
“But I think it’s really cool to see Florence [and the Machine] get that nomination [for Best New Artist], and I think it’s awesome that Esperanza Spalding also got nominated [in that category],” she said of the little-known jazz singer who likely sent many people to Google on Wednesday night.
Greenblatt was also excited that raspy-voiced singer Ray LaMontagne snagged a spot in the Song of the Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow” and another in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category.
“As fogie-ish as the Grammys are, it seems like this year they went more towards a Teen Choice Awards direction with a noticeably younger group of nominees,” she said, wondering if it was a conscious decision to try and make the show hipper or if it’s a signal of the changing demographic of Grammy voters. “And I think Bruno Mars deserves all of his nominations,” she added about the singer/songwriter/producer who scored seven nods. “He only had one hit, but he really shaped popular music this year with the songs he did for Travie McCoy, B.o.B and Cee Lo. He brought so much musicality to R&B and pop. He’s making music and playing instruments and he’s insanely melodic. He’s not just jacking samples.”
As for how Eminem ended up with the most nominations at 10, she chalked it up to the “Sandra Bullock factor,” speculating that Grammy voters might have just thought it was Marshall Mathers’ time to shine again. “He’s not universally liked for his sparkling personality, but it seems like it’s his time,” she said of the rapper, who had the year’s best-selling album with Recovery and stormed back with some of the most melodic, accessible music of his decade-plus career. “It almost seemed like he was deemed safe enough for the Grammys this year … and the album is so incredibly commercial. It’s as safe as Eminem gets.”
As for who got left off, Greenblatt said she was surprised at the lack of “American Idol” names on the list, with season-eight winner Kris Allen getting shut out and that season’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, only getting a bid for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Whataya Want From Me.”
And for a song that was one of the best-selling singles of the year, it was surprising that Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister,” Grammy bait if there ever was, managed only one nod for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals — for a live version of the tune.
There were other glaring omissions to be sure: no love for rappers Rick Ross and Big Boi, just a pair of nominations for last year’s big winners Kings of Leon, a shutout for Lady Gaga’s smash “Bad Romance” in the Record and Song of the Year categories (it did show up in Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) as well as for B.o.B and Hayley Williams’ mega-hit “Airplanes,” which scored only a Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals acknowledgment.
Greenblatt was also disappointed that Alicia Keys’ The Element of Freedom got blanked, despite the handfuls of Grammys the singer has taken home in the past. And considering its major impact on the pop-culture landscape, “Glee” only got noticed in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media category and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which Greenblatt said may have had something to do with the fact that the songs on the show are covers and not original compositions.
In the end, though, she said this year’s Grammys were mostly devoid of the giant head-smacking omissions and inclusions of past years and with the strong recognition to a new generation of singers, another potential sign that the show might be inching in a new direction.

Jeremy Renner Selected To Co-Star With Tom Cruise In ?Mission Impossible 4?
Tom Cruise is still the star of ‘Mission Impossible 4,’ but it looks like he’s decided to follow in Harrison Ford’s footsteps by having a younger co-star (Shia LaBeouf in the fourth ‘Indiana Jones’ movie) who may take over the franchise. According to Deadline Hollywood, ‘Hurt Locker’ star (and Academy Award nominee) Jeremy Renner has been selected to star alongside Tom for the fourth installment of the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise.
The studio has struggled to find the right co-star to play an operative opposite Cruise, and one factor was to selecting an actor who could potentially carry the series, should Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character not continue to be the emphasis. While Cruise is expected to return for a fifth installment, production chief Adam Goodman wanted a guy who could grow into a leading man in his own right.
Did you see Jeremy in ‘The Hurt Locker’? He’s also been cast in ‘The Avengers,’ so this won’t be his only big studio film. Somehow I have a hard time imagining him with Tom, but then, I can’t imagine the ‘Mission Impossible’ movies without Tom!What do you think of this casting?Photos by WENN.com Continue reading

Britney Spears Vs. Lady Gaga: Which Diva Will Rule 2011?
Gaga’s Born This Way and Spears’ new album both coming early in year.
By Jocelyn Vena

In 2010, Lady Gaga battled Taylor Swift for female pop domination, but in 2011, Gaga is going up against none other than career pop star Britney Spears. It should be a truly epic battle of the blondes, and it’s made even more interesting because the two not only share sonic similarities, but also have very similar fanbases of loyal devotees waiting to hear new notes from the chart-topping lasses.
In 2008, both Gaga and Spears released new music (Gaga with The Fame and Britney with Circus), and the ladies each released compilation albums in 2009 (Gaga’s The Fame Monster and Britney’s second greatest-hits collection, The Singles Collection), but never have their releases really come face to face as they will this year.
Gaga is set to release her single in February, with her full album, Born This Way, to follow sometime after. Meanwhile, Britney will have her first single out very early in 2011, with the album set for release in March.
So, which bombshell will rise to the top of the heap? MTV News asked music critics to weigh in.
“I think the thing about Gaga is: Her persona is really experimental, but her music isn’t, and I think she’s gonna have to really come out with some different stuff to make it more interesting,” writer Julianne Escobedo-Shepherd proposed. “I think her fanbase is so solid that she’ll be fine no matter what she does.”
New York Times writer Jon Caramanica noted that no one can guess what Gaga has up her sleeve for her next album, but it will be interesting.
“I see Gaga changing every six months,” he said. “I think she’s trying new ideas. Maybe they’re not all hits or they’re not all successful, but I think she’s trying new things, so if you look at how Gaga’s going to evolve, I don’t think we can say where Gaga’s gonna land,” he explained, “but I think we can say reliably it’s going to be really interesting.”
How does a vet like Britney compete with a newbie? Escobedo-Shepherd explained that Spears is actually in a great place to do it.
“She’s got a blank slate right now,” she said. “People don’t know what to expect from her. I think the fact that maybe she’s being more experimental shows that she feels freer a little bit, and I think it’s going to show in the music,” she predicted. “In the music sphere, I think that Britney’s gonna win, but Gaga’s so on top you can’t top her, even if you’re Britney.”
RapRadar.com’s Elliot Wilson noted that right now, “It’s Gaga’s game to lose,” and Complex‘s Noah Callahan said Spears’ vet status could work in her favor.
“The thing with Britney Spears that makes it work for her is that she’s been around for so long that people are invested in her narrative, and even when the records are so-so, they still have the desire to see her succeed as an individual,” he said. “I don’t really know what to expect from Lady Gaga in 2011. I do know that she will definitely throw us a curveball and do something that is unexpected.”

Chris Cornell Filling In For Robert Plant On Led Zeppelin Tour? That’s News To Him
‘I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,’ singer says.
By Chris Harris
Former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has spoken out for the first time about rumors that he’s been asked to fill in for Robert Plant on a proposed Led Zeppelin reunion tour. The trek would feature original guitarist Jimmy Page, original bassist John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham taking over on drums for his late father, John Bonham.
Cornell has been mentioned — along with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, White Stripes mastermind Jack White and Alter Bridge‘s Myles Kennedy — as a potential Plant fill-in. Plant has already said that he wouldn’t take part in the tour.
“I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be,” Cornell told MTV News. “I’ve heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it’s just an online rumor or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour.”
Cornell’s denial comes just a day after Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford confirmed reports that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. “They did it for fun,” Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show “Todd N Tyler Radio Empire.” “I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert.”
Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played a single reunion set last year at London’s O2 Arena. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant.
According to Snider, the rest of the band told Plant, ” ‘We’re all rehearsed, we’re ready to go. Here’s a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don’t do it, we’re going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].’ ”
“And he can sing the sh– out of Zeppelin,” Snider added. “They’re going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, ‘OK,’ and step in.”
In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. “We are trying out a couple of singers,” he said. “We want to do it. It’s sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there.”
But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren’t interested in finding a Plant clone. “It’s got to be right,” he said. “There’s no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don’t want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard.”
Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming Timbaland-produced solo LP, Scream, will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider Scream something of a departure, but he doesn’t see it that way.
“It makes me happy that there’s this perception that I have a group of fans that I’m now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be,” he said. “But I’ve been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] Euphoria Morning, my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I’d done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren’t necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like.
“It feels like I’ve done this so many times that when it’s presented to me as being a departure, I feel that’s a misconception,” he added. “I feel like that’s my theme at this point.”

Photo: Funny or Die
James Van Der Beek is showing Pacey how it’s done. The actor teamed up with Funny or Die this week to show the world just how funny he can be thanks to a group of clips he created that poke fun at his sensitive “Dawson’s Creek” image.
“I mean, I’ve loved the stuff that Funny or Die has been doing,” Van Der Beek told MTV News. “And I thought, ‘I want to play; this can be fun.’ And they’re just great guys and we talked about stuff.”
From there, the brainstorming began, and Van Der Beek was happy to make others laugh at his expense. In “Vandermemes,” the actor decides to bank on a widely circulated gif of Dawson Leery crying and offers other useful expressions for online use. In the second video, “A–hole for Hire,” he tries to make up for making men still suffer when their girlfriends compare them to his über-sensitive character.
Van Der Beek explained it was a great way to let everyone know he’s in on the crying meme joke. “It’s one of those things people always get me on Twitter. Like, they’ll tweet me something, and it’s always a trick,” he said. “And then [I'll click on the link] and it’s the shot of me crying, and I laugh every time. I think it’s hysterical. I mean, you do a show for six years, and it all gets reduced to a five-second clip of poor Dawson crying. It tickles my funny bone.”
There’s even a JamesVanDerMemes.com site, complete with every gif a fan could ever wish for. “I thought, ‘That’s so ridiculous, I think it’s something I have to do,’ ” he laughed. “I didn’t realize it would take on a life of its own, but it’s all in the name of making the funny.”
Asked if he had to pick his favorite meme to sum himself up, he laughed, “It depends on what kind of Van Der Mood I’m in.”
Van Der Beek also revealed that there are more videos to come. “I think the more ridiculous the better with Funny or Die,” he said. “I had so much fun hosting ‘SNL’ when I got to do it that this is kind of what that felt like, the same kind of energy. … I’m such a goof anyway in real life.”

Justin Bieber Calls His Genre ‘Just Good Music’
‘It’s not a specific type of music,’ Biebs tells MTV News at Q100 event.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Mawuse Ziegbe
While observers may attribute Justin Bieber’s overwhelming ascension into pop superstardom this year to his boyish charm or that perfectly coiffed hair, most of the “Bieber Fever” can be traced to the chart-dominating success and catchy tunes from not one, but the two albums he released this year.
But don’t confine him to the “pop star” category. When MTV News caught up with the teen phenom at a charity event for Atlanta’s Q100 radio station recently, Bieber said he doesn’t think of his music as a specific genre.
“Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear,” Bieber explained of his lyrical stylings. “I don’t know, it’s not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn’t say I’m pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it’s just good music,” he said with confidence.
To the busy 16-year-old’s credit, he’s been working with such a variety of artists, from Usher to Kanye West and Raekwon, and on future projects with Diddy, Lil Twist and Rascal Flatts, that the young man is certainly covering his musical bases. Not to mention the fact that he also recently introduced his legions of fans to his alter ego, rapper Shawty Mane.
With his big-screen debut, “Never Say Never,” and a tour with Willow Smith on the way in 2011, in addition to whatever “good music” he puts out from all of those collaborations, the Biebs is definitely exploring all of his options.
How would you describe Justin Bieber’s musical style? Share your ideas in the comments below!

Usher’s ‘OMG’ Is MTV News’ #1 Song Of 2010!
Club smash, featuring will.i.am, tops our list of the Top 25 Songs of the year.
By James Montgomery
MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 has reached an end. We’ve already counted down the rest, and now it’s time to get to the best: Usher’s “OMG,” the song that perfectly sums up the past 12 months of popular music — and makes you wanna move until you can’t move no more.
If 2010 proved anything, it’s that a DJ really can save your life … or at least get you to #1 on the Hot 100. After years of staring at each other from across the room, hip-hop, pop and R&B all decided to finally get in bed with dance music, and the results weren’t always pretty, but they were certainly successful. To date, only 17 songs have made it to the top spot of Billboard‘s singles chart in 2010, and nearly two-thirds of them — from Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” to Far East Movement’s “Like a G6″ — were, in some way, dance songs.
In that regard, no song better sums up 2010 pop music quite like Usher’s “OMG,” the dance song to end all dance songs. Sure, it may not have matched the swagger of Kanye West’s “Power,” the snarl of Rick Ross’ “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)” or the inbox-clogging spread of Cee Lo’s “F— You,” but it didn’t have to. None of those songs went to #1, after all. “OMG” did. Twice.
Even among songs that managed to snag that top spot — Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” B.o.B and Bruno Mars’ “Nothin’ on You” — “OMG” stood out from the pack, mostly because of its pedigree. It’s not a stretch to say that any of those tracks could’ve (and probably would’ve) been #1 in any other year; “OMG” could only have done it in 2010, because it was crafted to do nothing else. No other song this year was as of the moment, as singular and shiny and downright undeniable. There’s a reason it was named on more ballots than any other song on our countdown and justly takes the title of MTV News’ #1 Song of 2010.
And while all that is important, it’s largely beside the point. “OMG” is the kind of song that truly defies deep inspection, because it’s not exactly headphone music. Rather, it was made for the clubs, designed to envelop you on the dance floor and not let go until the final “oh-ohh-oh-ooh-oh.” And in that regard, it succeeds in spades. It is a masterful melding of R&B, and Euro dance, all icy synths and handclaps, starbursts and stutters and sing-along chants. It ebbs and flows, stops and starts, pumps and preens. Simply put, you cannot listen to it without moving in some way. (MTV’s Dee Caligiuri, who voted on our countdown, probably put it best one night when she declared: “There are so many dances you can do to it!”) And if that’s not the definition of a success, well, then I don’t know what is.
A large portion of the credit for “OMG” has to go to will.i.am, who not only produced the track (I know!), but was smart enough to see this whole dance thing coming when he teamed up with producer David Guetta last year. Those songs — “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” — were, of course, massive, but neither of them are as good as this. Given full control, Will goes off the deep end, cramming the song with every dance trick in the book — and probably some new ones he just invented on the spot. And Usher, whose career, truth be told, was sort of in need of a shot in the arm, is the beneficiary. He floats and gloats above the mix, suave and cocksure, knowing that he is exactly the right man at the right time. That time, of course, had to be 2010.
Because in a year when so many big-name acts embraced the DJ, he flat-out did it better than any of them. “OMG” represents the peak of the dance-pop era in which we live, a song as undeniable as it is of the moment. We can only speculate as to what next year will bring, but there’s really no denying that, as 2010 comes to a close, Usher stands above all else, reinvigorated and ready for more. It’s enough to make you say “Oh My God,” really.
How does Usher’s “OMG” rank among the year’s best songs? Let us know in the comments!
MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 have all been counted down. But the fun isn’t over yet: We still want to see your picks in the comments below!

Lindsay Lohan’s Family Threatens To Sue Over ‘Dogs In Pocketbooks’
Mom Dina Lohan says the family has ‘a very strong case’ against satirical film.
By Terri Schwartz

It took less than a day for reps from the Lohan family to speak out against Charles Casillo’s latest film, “Dogs in Pocketbooks.” The screenplay was written as a satire of Lindsay Lohan’s life, though Casillo was emphatic that the film was “in no way mean-spirited toward Lindsay,” adding, “It’s the kind of thing she has spoofed about herself in the past.”
But the Lohan family has been notoriously sensitive about anything that makes a mockery of Lindsay, most recently seen when they sued E-Trade for $100 million because of an ad that was modeled after her and ran during the Super Bowl.
Dina Lohan, Lindsay’s mother, spoke with TMZ and said the family is considering legal action against Casillo. She said the new movie is “definitely based on Lindsay’s likeness” (something Casillo did not try to hide when the film was announced Monday) and that the family has “a very strong case. It’s shadowing E-Trade.”
The Lohan family has already contacted their lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, who told TMZ she thinks they have a case against the film. “They are again using [Lindsay's] likeness without her being compensated,” the lawyer said. “Not only that, but they are advertising the fact they are using her likeness. Anyone bringing negativity will be dealt with accordingly.”
When TMZ contacted Casillo for comment, he backpedaled and said that allegations that the movie is based on Lindsay are “totally blown out of proportion.” He argued that the character is a composite of many young Hollywood starlets, including Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow.
“Dogs in Pocketbooks” follows a “bratty movie goddess in and out of rehab, in trouble with the law, and hounded by greedy agents, predatory paparazzi, off-the-wall stalkers and crazed media.” The title is an obvious reference to the trend Hilton started by carrying around her teacup Chihuahua in her purse, but the rest of the character description sounds markedly similar to Lohan.
On Monday, it was announced that model and heiress Lydia Hearst Shaw would play the lead, with Joan Collins cast as her agent. Casillo said of Hearst Shaw, “She’s one of the few supermodels who can actually act. She’s smart, well-read, charming and very beautiful. We looked at a lot of actresses for this role, and I was really knocked out.”

Russell Brand Tweets & Deletes Unflattering Katy Perry Photo
Russell Brand knows what it’s like to wake up every morning to Katy Perry — and now the rest of us do, too! Brand, 35, tweeted a photo over the weekend of his pop star bride first thing in the morning (or so it seems — there was no caption). The photo shows the gorgeous Perry, 26, with greasy hair, spotty skin, and no make-up, looking groggy as she leans on a pillow. It’s definitely a side of the dolled-up singer that we haven’t seen before! But almost as soon as he posted the pic, Brand deleted it.
Hmm — we can almost visualize what happened…
Katy (waking up): Russell, what are you doing?
Russell: I’m sorry, you just looked so cute sleeping there, I had to take a picture.
Katy: Omigod, that’s a terrible picture! Delete it!
Russell: No, it’s adorable! You look like a little puppy!
Katy: Delete it right now! Give me the camera!
Russell: Alright, I’m posting it on Twitter.
Katy: You are sleeping on the couch forever.
Russell: Alright, I’m deleting it from Twitter.
Of course, we have no idea what was actually going on in the Perry-Brand household this weekend (although if we could be a fly on the wall anywhere, that would be a good choice). Was the photo a prank? Was it retaliation for Perry’s complaining tweets about Brand’s soccer watching? Whatever Brand’s intentions, he should have known that anything posted on the internet can never be un-posted!
Do you think it was wrong for Russell Brand to post a photo of Katy Perry without make-up? Chime in below!

Ashley Tisdale Learned Some Cheerleading Moves From Her Mom!
Ashley Tisdale is starring in my new favourite show, Hellcats but is probably most known by 12 and 13 year olds alike as starring in the High School Musical franchise, as well as various Family channel shows. Her new role has her starring as a college cheerleader in the CWâ??s new show, Hellcats. She told Seventeen magazine that although she wasnâ??t a cheerleader, she was able to get some pointers from her mom, Lisa!
â??I was never a cheerleader but luckily my mom was, and she gave me some great tips. â??It was hard but I enjoyed it and it’s a great way to keep fit.”
I`m pretty sure that the moves the cheerleaders are doing these days are a bit different than the ones Ashley`s mom was doing! Cheerleading is crazy now with all the dancing and gymnastics involved! But it`s nice that Ashley was able to use her mom`s experiences to help her out.Are you surprised that Ashley would look to her mother for cheerleading advice? ‘Little Fockers’ Celebrates At The Holiday Box Office
‘Fockers’ won a meager first-place prize, while ‘True Grit’ blasted its way to second place.
By Josh Wigler
Ben Stiller in “Little Fockers”
Photo: Universal Studios/DW Studios
‘Tis the season to be jolly, but while the holiday spirit was present in millions of households this past weekend, it wasn’t felt with nearly as much fanfare at the movies.
It was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office this holiday season, with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s “Little Fockers” leading the pack with an estimated $34 million from Friday through Sunday and a five-day total of $48.3 million. But while Jack still has his eye on Greg, few people entered the circle of trust this go-around, as “Fockers,” the second sequel to the critically acclaimed “Meet the Parents,” failed to match the success of its predecessor “Meet the Fockers,” which earned $70.5 million in its first five days in 2004.
Indeed, the second-place showing for “True Grit” was more impressive than the first-place “Fockers” in many respects. For one, the Jeff Bridges-starring Western drew $36.8 million since opening on Wednesday of last week, nearly crushing its entire $38 million production budget in a single session. “True Grit” also marked the single-best opening for any Coen brothers movie to date, easily surpassing the $19.1 million “Burn After Reading” earned in 2008.
“Tron Legacy” remained on the gaming grid this weekend with a third-place finish worth $25.6 million. The movie suffered a steep 54 percent drop from its opening performance last weekend, leaving some to wonder whether Disney’s decision to revitalize the science-fiction franchise was a sound one.
The weekend’s biggest disappointment was Jack Black’s “Gulliver’s Travels,” which debuted Saturday and ended the weekend in seventh place with $7.2 million. Releasing the film on Christmas Day was a risky gamble on Fox’s part, and despite the message that “Gulliver” has to offer, size really does matter when it comes to business, and unfortunately for the studio, the opening numbers on “Gulliver” are simply too small to consider the film anything but a flop.
The Box-Office Top Five
#1 “Little Fockers” ($34 million)
#2 “True Grit” ($25.6 million)
#3 “Tron Legacy” ($20.1 million)
#4 “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($10.8 million)
#5 “Yogi Bear” ($8.8 million)
Upcoming Releases
It’s going to be another quiet weekend at the box office next week, with smaller-budget dramas “Another Year” and “Blue Valentine” sneaking in as the weekend’s only new releases with a combined total of 10 theaters between the two of them.

Anorexic Model Isabelle Caro Dies at 28
It was hard to shake the haunting image of model Isabelle Caro in the controversial 2007 anti-anorexia campaign, in which a nude Caro was rumored to weigh only 68 pounds at the time.
Now, sadly, while that shocking photo lives on, Caro does not. It was reported on Wednesday by People that the model/actress passed away at the age of 28 after battling the disease since she was 13 years old.
While the news of her death was only announced this week, Caro’s acting coach Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot, revealed she had actually died on Nov. 17, after just having returned from a shoot in Tokyo. Dubreuil-Prevot said that Caro "had been sick for a long time."
Caro’s famous image for the "No Anorexia" campaign (which was done by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani) was displayed on billboards and newspapers and garnered a lot of heat from the fashion industry.
PopEater.com reports that at that time designer Giorgio Armani, speaking out against the connection between eating disorders and the fashion industry, argued that, "even people who take no notice of fashion get anorexic."
Still, others had a profound reaction and connection to Caro, including Jessica Simpson, who had her on her VH1 self-esteem reality show The Price of Beauty. Caro spoke openly about her battle with anorexia and body image, a moment that brought Simpson, and undoubtedly countless viewers, to tears.
Leave your condolences for Isabelle Caro and her friends and family below.

Taylor Swift Tops Billboard Again, While Michael Jackson Debuts At #3
In a big week for sales, Swift’s Speak Now fends off Susan Boyle for #1.
By James Montgomery

It’s the most wonderful time of the year … especially for the music industry. Album sales surged thanks to all you holiday shoppers, and you put Taylor Swift back on top of next week’s Billboard albums chart. Swift barely edges out Susan Boyle in a week that saw plenty of big numbers put up across the board.
Swift’s Speak Now sold more than 259,000 copies (up 30 percent from last week) to claim the #1 spot, according to figures provided by Neilsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, Boyle’s The Gift sold more than 254,000, ending her run atop the chart. The week’s highest debut belongs to the late Michael Jackson, whose posthumous Michael album sold nearly 228,000 copies to open at #3. A pair of holiday-themed releases — Jackie Evancho‘s O Holy Night and the “Glee” cast’s Christmas album — round out the Top 5, selling nearly 191,000 and 158,000 copies, respectively.
Up next at #6, it’s R. Kelly‘s Love Letter, which debuts with sales of nearly 154,000 copies, and, at #7, it’s Diddy-Dirty Money, whose long-delayed Last Train to Paris opens to the tune of nearly 101,000 copies sold. The rest of the Top 10 is filled out by Nicki Minaj‘s Pink Friday (#8, more than 97,000 copies sold), Kid Rock‘s Born Free (#9, nearly 94,000) and the “Glee” cast’s The Music, Volume 4 (nearly 87,000).
Outside the Top 10, there are debuts from “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox, whose Farmer’s Daughter sold nearly 58,000 copies — 20,000 more than “Idol” champ Lee DeWyze sold in his first week — to open at #28. Smoove R&B crooner Tank‘s Now or Never bows at #35 (more than 43,000 sold), and Ciara‘s Basic Instinct, has a meek debut at #44, with sales of nearly 37,000 copies.
Nearly every album in the Billboard top 50 posted a sales increase from the previous week’s numbers, including Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream (#15), which saw a 26 percent increase in sales, Justin Bieber‘s My World 2.0 (#18, with a 36 percent bump in sales) and Eminem‘s Recovery (#22, with a 39 percent jump). And that trend looks to continue on next week’s Billboard chart, too, since there are still two shopping days left before Christmas.

Lady Gaga To Make Born This Way Announcement New Year’s Eve
‘My gift to you is a BORN THIS WAY announcement Midnight on NEW YEARS EVE,’ she writes in a Christmas tweet.

Lady Gaga is kicking 2011 off with a bang. The singer shared with her little monsters that, come New Year’s Eve, she will have a special announcement for her loyal fans about her upcoming album, Born This Way.
She tweeted over the weekend: “Merry Christmas little monsters! I love you with all my heart. My gift to you is a BORN THIS WAY announcement Midnight on NEW YEARS EVE. -MM.”
The Mother Monster didn’t reveal anything else about the announcement but did react to a fan-made video sending Christmas love to the superstar. “This is so darling!” she wrote. “You make me so happy, Im sending you monster kisses!”
Gaga had always planned to end 2010 on a high note. She shared with Rolling Stone back in June that she had every intention of making an announcement on New Year’s Eve, even if what she had planned to announce was pre-empted. “I think I’m gonna get the album title tattooed on me and put out the photo,” she said of her plans six months ago. “I’ve been working on it for months now, and I feel very strongly that it’s finished right now. It came so quickly. Some artists take years; I don’t. I write music every day.”
Since she already revealed her album title at the VMAs, what she plans to announce on New Year’s Eve is a mystery, but we’re sure her fans are counting down the moments.
Gaga recently shared that the album will be her “most innovative.” A single is expected in February, and the album will follow shortly thereafter.
“[The album is] a marriage of electronic music with major, epic, dare I even say, metal or rock and roll, pop, anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats,” Gaga said. “I think that lyrically this album is more poetic … It’s really written by the fans, they really wrote it for me because every night they’re funneling so much into me. So I wrote it for them. Born This Way is all about my little monsters and me, mother monster.”
What do you think Gaga will unveil on New Year’s Eve? Share your guesses in the comments!

Britney Spears: A Look Back At Her Singles … So Far
With her new album due in March, we revisit some of the pop princess’ many hits.
By Jocelyn Vena
Now that Britney Spears has announced that she will be releasing a new album in March 2011, fans must be wondering what her latest musical endeavor will sound like. The as-yet-untitled effort is a follow-up to 2008′s well-received Circus, which helped resurrect the singer’s career after a dark time in her life. No information regarding the upcoming album has emerged, but Britney’s faithful followers have watched her change up her look and sound with each single over the span of her decade-plus career, as she evolved from a bubblegum-pop princess to a sexy dance-club siren. Let’s trace Spears’ musical journey by taking a look at some of her most memorable tunes.
In 1999, a fresh-faced Spears released ” …Baby One More Time” (produced by Max Martin), the title track off her massive debut album. She got the conversation about her sexuality started thanks to a provocative video in which she danced around in a Catholic school uniform, as well as the song’s equally provocative lyrics, where she longingly sang, “My loneliness is killing me/ I must confess, I still believe/ When I’m not with you I lose my mind/ Give me a sign/ Hit me baby one more time.” It’s to be noted that the song originally was intended for TLC.
In the video for “Oops! … I Did It Again” (produced by Martin and Rami Yacoub), Spears’ smash from the 2000 album of the same name, the pigtails and skirt were gone, replaced by a red catsuit. That visual, as well as the song’s lyrical content, reflected Spears’ evolution from naughty schoolgirl to intergalactic sex kitten, both in her video and on the song’s lyrical content.
For “I’m a Slave 4 U” (produced by the Neptunes) off 2001′s Britney, Spears declared her sexual independence. No longer was she just teasing about the idea that she loved the beat of dance music and how sexy it made her feel, instead she was explicitly sharing it with the world. Plus, who could forget all the sweat in that video.
In 2003, Spears teamed up with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, for “Me Against the Music” (produced by Christopher Stewart and Penelope Magnet), the sexy lead single from In the Zone. While the darker, more synth-heavy “Toxic” would become the album’s defining tune, “Me Against the Music” picked up where “Slave” left off: Spears battling the demon she has inside of her that just loves to come out on the dance floor.
After a few years of not putting out any music, Spears hit the club again with 2007′s “Gimme More” (produced by Danja) off the aptly titled Blackout. Between the release of In the Zone and Blackout, Spears had married, divorced and become a mother — she also had started to act erratically. The track, which relied more heavily on underground dance and electro than most of Spears’ previous singles, was a highly sexualized tune about getting it on.
After the darkness of Blackout, Spears got back to her fun and frolicking old ways on the 2008 Circus single “Womanizer” (produced by the Outsyders). The track was a return to form for Spears after the lackluster response to Blackout, and it brought the discussion back around to her music and away from her sometimes topsy-turvy personal life. In the song’s video, Spears gets back at a player, and really has the last laugh. The clip also features ffotage of a completely nude Britney in a steamy sauna.
In 2009, Spears shot to the top of the charts with the danceable track “Three” (produced by Martin and Shellback) off The Singles Collection. The tune was an instant smash, and featured Spears robotically singing about a ménage à trois over a club beat.
As for what’s next for the singer, very little is known about her forthcoming album, although a couple of her producers have dropped some hints. Dr. Luke said that the music will “be a departure from what you’ve heard,” while Danja called it “hard-hitting, uptempo [and] high-energy.” Spears, meanwhile, is very clear about how she thinks the record is sounding. “I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!” she tweeted.

Usher Most Admires Justin Bieber’s ‘Excitement And Innocence’
Bieber’s mentor tells MTV News the teen sensation has ‘so much more in store for the future.’

With so much accomplished in 2010, Justin Bieber has certainly set the bar high for 2011. But the teen singer is already gearing up for next year. Bieber will not only release his much-anticipated 3-D flick, “Never Say Never”, but he has also teased that he’d like to release an album of all-new material sometime later next year.
His mentor, Usher, thinks that at this point, the sky’s the limit.
“As far as music and entertainment, that’s the beginning,” Usher told MTV News at Sunday’s AMAs, where Bieber performed and took home four awards.
“There’s so much more in store for the future, or at least there’s a ton of things we can do and will, and with the support of his fans who will continue to just grow and grow and grow.”
At 16, Bieber has accomplished what few manage with many more years in the music business, but Usher said he wants to ensure that Bieber doesn’t stop enjoying it all as his popularity continues to grow and his schedule gets busier.
Asked what he admires most about Justin, Usher said, “His excitement and innocence in it. And I don’t mean that in a light way because I think that he’s absolutely enjoying every moment of it, as any young man his age would, but in a different way because [of] the hard work that has gone in and led to the dream that has become a reality. And every time you have an opportunity do something incredible, I tell him to do his best and be conscious that what you’re doing today should last forever and eternity.”
What did you think of Justin’s AMA performance on Sunday? Tell us in the comments!

Ryan Gosling Calls ‘Blue Valentine’ A ‘Cautionary Tale’ For Couples
‘People can see the film and can see themselves in it or say, ‘How do we keep that from happening?’ ‘ he tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by: Josh Horowitz
We already know Ryan Gosling thinks his latest film, “Blue Valentine,” is a “nice companion piece” to his 2004 romantic drama “The Notebook.” And this is despite “Valentine” having much darker, more sexually charged elements and some MPAA ratings drama.
But we wanted to know, given the film’s edgier theme, is it detrimental or beneficial for a couple to see together?
“I think it’s the best thing for a couple to see, honestly. I’m not just trying to sell the movie,” Gosling insisted when MTV News caught up with him. “Well, I am trying to hawk the movie,” he laughed, adding that he thinks it’s good for couples to see and experience together, since it might prompt discussion or bring to light existing problems in a relationship that the couple could be trying to ignore.
“If there is a problem in their relationship, they’re not able to look at it, and they’re caught in their own experience of it, there’s no dialogue about any of the bigger issues,” Gosling explained. “I think ['Blue Valentine' is] a cautionary tale about what can happen to love if you ignore it and you take it for granted.”
He went on to say that, because the film highlights the “nitty-gritty” of what it takes to sustain a romantic relationship, it will get couples talking.
“I think that people can see the film and can see themselves in it or say, ‘How do we keep that from happening?’ ”
Check out everything we’ve got on “Blue Valentine.”

Eminem, Jay-Z’s Leaked Track ‘Syllables’ Was Recorded In 2007
Cashis, who is also featured on the cut, reveals the song was meant for one of Em’s albums or Dr. Dre’s forthcoming Detox.
By James Dinh

Heads were scratched when a dated, top-notch collaboration between some of hip-hop’s biggest MCs, including Eminem, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent and Stat Quo, surfaced in the blogosphere yesterday. And while deliberate (and unintentional) leaks happen all the time, it was odd that nobody had ever heard of the all-star cut titled “Syllables.” However, Cashis, another one of the track’s featured rappers, gave fans some insight into the track in an interview with Vibe.com, admitting his excitement as a then-newly-signed artist to collaborate alongside rap icons.
“I laid my part at Dre’s studio with Stat, 50 and Em,” Cashis recalls of the track, which talks of the industry’s lack of lyrical substance and its reliance on gimmicks. “I heard that Jay had just left when I got there. Fif’ was there kicking his verse in another room when I did mine.”
But the MC, who had just been signed to Shady Records at the time, confessed that he wasn’t nervous to spit alongside the hip-hop heavyweights. “I was more so excited than intimidated because I already had held my own with Em, and I think they believed in me this time. After I kicked my verse, Em, Dre and 50 all said it was dope. That was the cosign I needed. I learned more from that session than any other before that.”
While Cashis isn’t sure whether the “Syllables” leak was authorized by his label or not, the Slim Shady protégé says that the version that hit the Internet is different “and even better” than the one originally recorded in 2007. The tune was set to be featured on one of Eminem’s LPs or Dr. Dre’s highly anticipated Detox.
However, the rapper, who released his County Hound EP that same year, reveals that he’s remained patient and hardworking while waiting for Eminem to sort through his personal trials in recent years.
“I ain’t never left. My position is good over at Shady,” the MC says. “Em pulled me to the side when he was coming back and told me the plan. He was going to get himself going again and then put me out. It got to a point where Em didn’t want to rap anymore. But I told him to take as long as you want to take. For him to get inspired again is a blessing.”

Although Britney Spears’ next album isn’t set for release until March, her fans can start gearing up for new music now.
According to a Spears fansite, BreatheHeavy.com, a notice about auditions for a new Britney video was sent out by her camp.
Tryouts will reportedly be held on Wednesday (December 22), and Spears is looking for male and female dancers to join her in the video for the single, which is set for a January release, according to the notice. “Hold It Against Me” is rumored to be the title of the song, though no details regarding the single or video have been confirmed.
“The dates for the project are still to be determined but it will be happening on either the 9th and 10th of January with rehearsals anytime after Xmas and leading up to those dates or on the 15th and 16th with rehearsals leading in after Xmas as well,” the notice reads. “He is looking for men and women with fabulous bodies and faces. They must be versatile. This is not for the tour at this time or even promo. It is just for the video.”
Spears’ choreographer, Brian Freidman, hinted about the auditions on his Twitter. He has worked with the singer on videos for “Toxic” and “Me Against the Music.” “Countdown… 2 days till that very special audition I am holding in LA. Very exciting!!!” he wrote on Monday.
On Tuesday he wrote, “Breaking my body choreographing for 2moros casting. Get ready! I’m makin y’all work for this gig! The start of a new era! Stretch!!! I must go 2 bed NOW! Have 2 B up in 6 hours! Everyone who’s auditioning get some rest & dress 2 impress! I want STARS not classroom dancers!”

‘Glee’ Britney Spears Episode Slammed By Parents Television Council
Group describes show as ‘an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque.’
By James Dinh

Photo: FOX
Last week’s episode of “Glee” found Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) shouting, “It’s a Britney Spears sex riot!” as she attempted to put a stop to the glee club’s saucy rendition of “Toxic.”
But she’s not the only one who had an issue with the Spears takeover at William McKinley High School. The hit Fox show has come under fire as the Parents Television Council has deemed the “Britney/Brittany” episode the “Worst TV Show of the Week” due to the broadcast’s “explicit sexual content.”
A message posted on the organization’s website decries the episode’s “skimpy outfits” and “sultry grinds” during “I’m a Slave 4 U.” And even though “Glee” castmembers show very little skin in the re-creation for the 2001 Madonna duet “Me Against the Music,” the PTC said the interpretation included “plenty of girl-girl bumping and grinding.”
According to the group, the tribute to the always-controversial Spears wasn’t appropriate because the singer is far from a suitable role model.
“Glee earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers,” the message continued. “A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque. But perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns, and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model. The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around. What’s next? Portraying Ike Turner as a reformed feminist?”
Spears knows controversy and criticism far too well. Since the beginning of her career, she’s always raised eyebrows with everything from her sex-kitten public image to her sometimes-questionable parental judgment. While the pop star has played it relatively safe since her comeback, the singer did make headlines last year for her suggestive single “If U Seek Amy,” the third offering from her album Circus.

Is East Coast Blizzard To Blame For Scrooge-Like Christmas Box Office?
Snow isn’t the only thing that kept ‘Little Fockers’ and other films from raking in the bucks.
By Tom DiChiara

Holiday weekends often equate to big bucks at the box office. And while Christmas weekend doesn’t always pack the punch of a Labor Day, Memorial Day or Fourth of July, it has been known to generate its fair share of cash. There are an abundance of revenue-friendly family flicks, Christmas Day movie marathons have become a popular tradition and mall-goers often take a break from hitting up post-holiday sales to catch a film.
But what happens to those Christmas-weekend box-office numbers when almost the entire East Coast, from North Carolina through Maine, is pummeled by a blizzard on December 26? Safe money would bet that B.O. revenues drop as precipitously as 2 feet of snow. And though those numbers probably chilled Hollywood execs to the bone, they weren’t just due to the blizzard.
The lackluster $30.8 million take of “Little Fockers” topped the charts for a weekend that was down a whopping 48 percent from last year’s Christmas-weekend receipts of $270 million (an all-time record for any weekend, by the way). But a quick look at the numbers suggests that while snowy weather certainly didn’t help matters, it was not to blame for the Scrooge-like turnout at the box office.
For starters, Christmas Eve, a notoriously slow movie-going day, fell on a Friday this year, eating into a big slice of the weekend box office. “Fockers” was the day’s top-grossing flick with a paltry $4.95 million. By comparison, the movie earned about $7.2 million on both Wednesday (when it opened) and Thursday, and took in $14.6 million and $11.3 million on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. More to the point, “Fockers” saw its box-office haul drop just 23 percent from Christmas Day (Saturday) to Sunday, when the snow hit. That number is in line with normal Saturday to Sunday decreases. Meanwhile, “True Grit” saw its earnings fall a mere 6.5 percent from Saturday to Sunday, while “Tron Legacy” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” dropped only around 1 percent, and “Yogi Bear” and “Tangled” saw their revenues increase over the same two-day period.
Numbers aside, one can’t ignore the possibility that the movies in theaters this Christmas simply weren’t as appealing to moviegoers as those in previous years. Last year’s record-setting weekend was spearheaded by the one-two-three punch of “Avatar,” which raked in $75.6 million in its second week of release, “Sherlock Holmes” ($62.4 million) and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” ($48.9 mil).
Though “Little Fockers” had a built-in audience, its 2004 predecessor “Meet the Fockers,” which led the B.O. the last time Christmas fell on a Friday, wasn’t as well-received as the franchise’s first entry, 2000′s “Meet the Parents.” Combine that with the fact that “Little Fockers” didn’t exactly wow critics (it scored only an 11 percent rating on review aggregator RottenTomatoes.com), and it’s not hard to see why the threequel failed to snag blockbuster numbers. And, while the Coen brothers’ Western “True Grit” rode a wave of critical praise to a second-place finish and an impressive $24.9 million gross (the biggest opening for a Western ever), that wasn’t enough to make up for a shallow field of holiday-weekend contenders.
In other words, Mother Nature is off the hook for this one.

Stephen Dorff Says Jack Nicholson Will Love ‘Somewhere’
‘I think he’ll identify with it so much,’ Dorff says about his friend and onetime co-star.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Ever since they shared screen time in the 1997 heist flick “Blood and Wine,” actors Stephen Dorff and Jack Nicholson have remained close friends. Their relationship may not necessarily be “bromance” territory, but it’s close enough that Dorff has shared his career ups and downs with the Oscar winner, and asked for his advice over the years. When MTV News caught up with Dorff recently to talk about his critically acclaimed new film “Somewhere” — a role that he called the most challenging of his career — he said he thinks the flick is one Nicholson will really enjoy.
“I think he’s going to really love this movie because to me it’s a film that isn’t made anymore today,” Dorff explained. “It’s such a character piece and I think he’ll identify with it so much.
Dorff revealed that he already got a big thumbs-up from Nicholson after “Somewhere” took home the top prize at Italy’s Venice Film Festival in September.
“After we won Venice, I remember telling him how excited I was,” he recalled. “And he’s like, ‘Way to go, Dorff!’ ”
We then brought up the fact that Nicholson has taken several actors under his wing over the years — pointing out to Dorff that the Hollywood legend had taken an interest in “Mad Men” actress January Jones when she was first starting out.
“Well, he takes an interest in a lot of women, let’s be honest,” Dorff responded with a chuckle. “He definitely took me under his wing. I think it’s rare for Jack to take a young guy under his wing — he’s not hanging out with too many guys.
“He did do that with Sean Penn and he’s definitely given me great advice over the years,” Dorff added. “I always feel like I have him as a friend and he’ll show up if he can. And he’s always been my favorite actor, so for me, he’s a friend, and it’s nice to get a little starstruck still. It keeps me remembering who I am and where I am, and Jack’s still somebody that makes me a little nervous.”
If Dorff has his way, he and his buddy Jack will take their friendship to the big screen via a comedy the younger actor is hoping to make with Adam Sandler’s production company.
“It’s a very funny comedy idea for me and him set in the South of France,” Dorff told the UK’s Independent newspaper last month. “We’re not in script form yet but I wrote the treatment and they’ve already bought it so as soon as I get a break from working, I’ll turn that into a script and I’ll go and tell Jack. … And I’ll get Sony to give him his $15 million and then we’ll go and make the movie — because he likes money.”
Check out everything we’ve got on “Somewhere.”

Ashley Tisdale And Aly Michalka Celebrate Magazine Cover And A New TV Show
Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical, Phineas and Ferb) and Aly Michalka (Band Slam, Phil of the Future) were in attendance at a private party thrown for them by Seventeen magazine. The two young women were there to celebrate the October cover of the magazine, and also to share their excitement about their upcoming TV show: “Hellcats”.In the October issue Ashley shares how her list of qualities in a boyfriend has changed since high school:
“In high school, it was all about popularity, being with the boyfriend and all the girls thinking he’s cute. Now, I am more into a guy’s personality. I like someone I can have fun with and who can be more laid-back than I am, because it calms me down. At the same time, I want to be with someone who wants to work as much as I do and who respects me like I respect him.”
Aly is honest in admitting that she doesn’t have a boyfriend, but would love to have one:
” I’m not – I wish. I’m so ready to have boyfriend. I just need to find that guy who’s worthy of committing myself to, because I’m not your average girl. And I think a lot of guys are intimidated by girls who know what they want. I still live at home when I am in L.A., I’m really close to my family, I have a busy life and I’m super-close to my sister – so basically if you date me, you date her. And he’s either into it or he’s not.”
I love that they both sound very strong and firm about what they’re looking for in a guy. Don’t give in and stay picky.
“Hellcats” premieres on the CW this Thursday night. It’s a comedy/drama about the competitive world of college cheer leading. I put one of the promo clips under the jump if you’re curious.Photos courtesy of Seventeen Magazine Continue reading

Michael Jackson’s Michael Has King Of Pop’s ‘Spirit,’ Producer Says
‘This feels like Michael, this feels like the spirit of Michael,’ Teddy Riley tells MTV News.
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts

Teddy Riley had a long-standing working relationship with Michael Jackson, and the producer said Jackson’s latest project, Michael, is as authentic an LP as any of the superstar’s past work.
“Oh, they’re gonna say this is him, that’s the first thing,” Riley told MTV News about fan’s anticipated reaction to the set. “And this feels good. This feels like Michael, this feels like the spirit of Michael. And we love him, that’s what they’re gonna say.”
The project, which arrived in stores and online Tuesday (December 14), is the first posthumous MJ collection since the singer died in June 2009.
Riley, along with Akon, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart (Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, The-Dream) and a host of other producers and songwriters were commissioned to complete the project, which was birthed from a spate of unfinished material in Jackson’s archives. In the past, Riley has helmed MJ’s Dangerous album, on which he produced “Remember the Time” and “Jam,” among other tracks.
For Michael, which Riley was called in to work on during the last three months of production, the former Guy and Blackstreet member had a handy trick to help him retrieve the vibe he shared with MJ.
“Just by bringing his spirit in the room, in the actual studio,” Riley explained. “I had his pictures all over the place. Time after time, I would [also] go back and forth to Thriller and listen to all the music to get the spirit and keep his spirit in the room. To keep the bad energy out of the room. He was always about the good energy. Anytime there was a negative energy, nothing would happen. The computers would react, they would just go out. There was serious spirits in the room. Shutting down computers. That was the problems we were going through. But when it felt good and the energy was good, everything went smooth and we got through the project.”

True Grit Movie Preview
Which movies are fun for the whole family and which ones are treats just for you? Find out!
In theaters now…
True Grit
Short Story:
After her father is suddenly murdered, 14-year-old Mattie Ross seeks to extract revenge — but she can’t do it alone. To aid her mission, she hires notorious U.S. Marshall Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn (Jeff Bridges). Together, the two embark on a wild journey through Indian Nation and form an unlikely companionship with a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon), a man who is out to settle a score of his own.
What They’re Saying:
"True Grit proves to be as funny and heroic as any other legend, and tells an expert tale to boot." – New York Daily News
"The big names in the cast all do excellent work, but the biggest surprise is all but unknown Steinfeld." – Los Angeles Times
Good For Kids?
These gun-slinging westerners may entice your kids. However, True Grit‘s violent outtakes won’t do them any bit of good.
Gulliver’s Travels
Short Story:
Gulliver’s Travels puts a modern twist on the classic literary tale surrounding travel writer Lemuel Gulliver. When Gulliver (Jack Black) takes on an assignment in Bermuda, he mysteriously ends up on the unknown island of Liliput, where he strangely towers over the island’s tiny inhabitants.
What They’re Saying:
"…the traditional problem of big-budget family entertainment arises, where the grown-up jokes are too grown-up for the younger kids in the audience and the jokes for kids are too insipid and simplistic to appeal to grown-ups." – MSN
"Marketed as a hip, modern adaptation of a classic, the movie feels more like a Christmastime TV special projected in 3D." – Slant Magazine
Good For Kids?
While the kids are out of school for the holidays, Gulliver’s Travels acts as the perfect substitute teacher.
Little Fockers
Short Story:
We’ve met the parents; we’ve seen the parents meet each other. Now, in the third installment of the Fockers franchise, it’s time to meet the kids. Little Fockers once more follows Greg and Pam as they navigate their awkward familial relationship and introduce a new mischievous little Focker into the mix.
What They’re Saying:
"Think of it as a mildly entertaining way to get out of the house this Christmas, rather than a cracker of a movie." – Birmingham Post
"All together now: "FockersFockers-Fockers." Are you rolling on the floor in hilarity?" – New York Daily News
Good For Kids?
The little ones will laugh at Little Fockers, but will the relate?
In case you missed…
How Do You Know
Short Story:
Professional softball player Lisa Jorgenson (Reese Witherspoon) finds herself in the midst a love triangle as two completely different guys (Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd) compete for her affections.
What They’re Saying:
"Before it wraps up that question like the obedient Hollywood love story it eventually has to be, How Do You Know takes an unexpectedly candid detour through how incredibly hard just following that directive has become." – Village Voice
"The sad part is that How Do You Know is nowhere near as dumb as it looks. A couple of comic set pieces are inspired — or would be, if Brooks’s timing weren’t off." – New York Magazine
Good For Kids?
Although kids may find this film’s comedic antics entertaining, this PG-13 comedy is too mature for the little ones.
Tron Legacy
Short Story:
At age 27, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is determined to find the father (Jeff Bridges) he thought had abandoned him as a child. When Sam uncovers the cyber universe his father has been living in for the past 20 years, the two reunite and embark on a dangerous adventure through the digital world of Tron.
What They’re Saying:
"Given the movie’s graphic pizzazz, the best hippie wisdom Bridges might offer the viewer is: Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream." – Village Voice
"While 21st-century effects and a cutting-edge dance score make this a stunning virtual ride, the underlying concept feels as far-fetched as ever." – Variety
Good For Kids?
The kids will get lost in Tron Legacy‘s 3-D world of adventure.
Yogi Bear
Short Story:
In this 3D adaption of the classic cartoon series, Yogi (Dan Aykroyd) and his trusty sidekick Boo Boo (Justin Timberlake) must team up with their longtime arch-nemesis, Ranger Smith, to save their home and stop Jellystone Park from being sold.
What They’re Saying:
"Rock-bottom expectations are rewarded, sort of, in this update of Hanna-Barbera’s necktied ursus." – Village Voice
"Neither smarter nor dumber than the average family-friendly comedy." – Variety
Good For Kids?

Jessica Simpson and her new beau, Eric Johnson, were spotted as they left their hotel in NYC this afternoon. Another day, another outfit for Jessica. What do you think of this one? These shots of Ashlee were taken at different times today because in one shot she’s wearing flip flops and a fedora, but in the other pics she has on some animal print shoes and a leather jacket. Staples Center’s Star-Studded Christmas Game Match-Up
Pairing up the league’s two most-talked-about teams for a holiday extravaganza, the stars were out in full force to watch a little NBA Christmas Day action at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday (December 25).
Tinseltown names including Cameron Diaz and Kanye West grabbed up primo seats while watching Kobe Bryant and the Lakers take on Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade’s Miami Heat squad.
Also in the house were expecting parents Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, as well as Emmanuelle Chriqui, Garrett Hedlund and Lamar Odom’s mother-in-law, Kris Jenner.
With the game not what the LA crowd had hoped for, the visiting Heat squad ended up rolling over the hometown Lakers by a score of 96-80.
